Thanks for the info, so is this something I have to spend 300 dollars on? I would prefer to not have to spend more than 100, (im on a bit of a budget currently) plus I have no idea what would or wouldn't fit in my particular set up.
nope. I didn't want to do that either. I got a mini reactor ( for my 14 gallon) its from brs( bulkreefsupply.com). Not 300 dollars.
It works great for me and I have never had an algae problem in this tank at all. In the mini you can mix gfo and carbon, which I do. There is a downside to this method. One media last a bit longer than the other. But for me its worth it because I by my carbon and GFO in bulk, so much cheaper. The mini reactor is truly mini. They do have a dual reactor but that is more pricey.
The mini can be placed in a sump or it can be outside the tank. It is made so that it can be screwed into the wall. I didn't do that as I have a pet peeve about tanks be surrounded by junk, I like it all hidden. I have mine behind the tank on a piece of thin shelving, completely hidden.
FYI: they have two option for the mini. With or Without pump. I got the mini from brs and got the pump from amazon. when i crunched the numbers, it was cheaper.
ON BUDGET: get a case amazon card. go on the amazon.com website and get you an amazon chase card. I get all my salt, pumps ect from amazon. Were I live at its cheaper and I have prime so i get free two day shipping. The card gives you points and those points can be used on amazon. Just a suggestion as it helps me get free stuff by using the points, without me having to compromise in what i want.
I hope some of this helps you. this hobby can be pricey which makes it frustrating. I wish you the best of luck with your search.
