help: algae scrubber

I will soon b seeing up my 55g. I was hoping to get a good jump start on algae so im thinking of putting in am algae scrubber. Do any of u have good references for me to look at. I understand the concept but don't know how top build one, or where to bit it. Thanks

I have seen some really good videos that walk you step by step on how to build one on you tube

Just put a light over your sump and grow cheato much easier and same help just keep your tank clean and low nutrients and you will be fine and you will save money you won't have to build an algae scrubber

You can always have a custom sump made or two small sumps with bulkheads linking the two of them together have the return line go into a filter sock and skimmer compartment together then a baffle then cheato compartment then 3 baffles to stop bubbles then return pump / heater / gfo compartment.....it can be done ......

Look at Petco next dollar a gallon sale they have 12" wide tanks..... 30 long maybe 40 long and glue in baffles and you will have a nice sump

They are much smaller now than they used to be due to the size being determined by the amount of food added. The screen for my 300 gallon feeding heavily is only 14" x 6". Also more effective than chaeto and requires about the same space.

After reading and doing a lot of homework I'm surprised not more people use them by the results everyone is getting from them. I just built mine one week ago in hopes to eliminate gfo and biopellet reactors for good.

They're old tech, and I think a lot of people are more concerned with new shiny things. Plus some theorize that algae can leach chemicals into the water that inhibit coral growth. Not sure if it's been proven or not, but the mere mention will send a lot of people running. Mine's been working fine.

I'm all for easy cheap and natural so this is right up my alley, I am a week in and only light brown film on screen so I have a while until I can say if it will work for me but I'm in good spirits after seeing others reviews.
