Help... Amonia...

MyMonkey

Persona Non Grata
I am leaving in the morning on a cruise. I just noticed that my fish were breathing hard and fast. Tested levels. All ok but Amonia. It's at .25:confused: What the? All ok but a Red Lipped blenny who is recouperating after a trip to the sump.

He has been hanging out in the corner but is breathing etc. What can cause this. Have not seen amonia in my tank for 8 months or more.

I would be looking for a snail that maybe got stuck in between rocks and died. Something has died and is rotting to put off amonia.

I would also do a water change and add some fresh carbon, it will probably be fine.

Depending on the test kit used, you may wanna consider the validity of those results, My reef tank will show .25 ammonia every once in a while, but I know there isn't any in there, It's the crappy test kit I use. The breathing hard/fast could be caused by other things, oxygen level for instance. But this is just alternative thinking, could be ammonia in your tank.

I think I'm with Adam on this one. I'm sure I'm far late in answering though. Especially if you can't find anything dead. I would check available oxygen as well. It could also be something like an internal parasite or even chemicals in the tank. Water change and running carbon, like suggested before, will probably be the best course of action. Have you cleaned around the tank, a pump shut off, or have you added any new fish?

I made it back alive. Seems as though it was my red lipped blenny. He is no where to be found.

I will post pics later. Lots of me in my Speedo. :) Kidding... Went to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. Water was nice, took some pics with a cheapo underwater camera. The ship was HUGE. Absolutely massive. Was very impressive. Unfortunately, they would not let you tour the engine room or Bridge. Under demand from the Office of Homeland Security.

Who would have though that a grocery store would require such a thing? :)
