What are you running as media inside of the filter?
Ditch the filter completely right away unless it's carbon

running carbon with NITRATE asboring pads in it as well also put my nitrite out stones in it as well

First step, get a skimmer. Even if it's a hang on back. They are better than nothing. Aquamaxx and reef octopus make
Good hob options. It
Will make a huge difference

So remove fileter (check) rearranged one pump to shot more at surface. Any further advice skimmer will have to wait tell payday

I would leave the filter in until you get your skimmer since its not like you have a sponge in it , it'll run carbon and add some (not much but some none the less) flow to your tank

Get a conch to stir up the sand a bit..
Removing then slime definitely won't hurt you

Do you use RO/DI water?

Before getting skimmers look at the source water and over feeding.

Also using a turkey baster to blow detritus and cyano off and out of the rocks is a good idea.

You can keep the HOB filter if you just use carbon and GFO continually and pads on occasion to polish the water.

I do use RO/DI water i bought a machine specifically for the tank. Over feeding could be my problem. I use one cube of mysis shrimp one cube of brine shrimp and a small pinch of garlic fish food

I'd say over feeding is possible. I feed my 125 two frozen cubes and a 3" sheet of nori everyday and I have 9 fish, 2 shrimp, 1 serpent star, and a bunch of hermits.

10 percent changes everyweek and a 50 percent every month. I will try to cut back on feeding maybe half what do being as i have 5 fish, 4 shrimp 4 emeralds, 2 hermits and the sand shifting sea star along with my 6 snails

Seems like a lot of water to change. Do you use a TDS meter for the RO/DI?

FWIW, I would do bi weekly changes of 20%. You may be swaying stable parameters and doing more harm than good to the bacterial population.

Udk what a TDS meter is and thats what the research said to change will try cut that back as well

TDS. Total Disolved Solids. You use it to test the filtered fresh water to make sure the RO/DI is working at optimal performance.
