Help...Apex lite WAN access

I have been reading some of the threads here, I have some basic knowledge with port forwarding...let me try to give as much info as possible, my apex unit has been setup with a static IP and I'm able to access on the LAN side using a different port than default, I also setup DNS thru dyndns.org and has the domain setup there. I have updated my router to update it automatically thru DDNS option, I'm using DD-WRT firmware btw...I have double checked my IP and seems correct as well. I also added the port forwarding using the static IP and the assigned port...but I'm still having trouble accessing on the WAN side.

I have cablevision optimum online, the internet goes into their cable modem then to my netgear router, then to a Dlink switch box, then connected to the Apex unit...

Any other items or step I need to check into?? seems odd and I think I got everything already...ahhhh I hate networking when things fails :spin2:

Also I like to add that the port forwarding is setup as a "TCP", I noticed there are other options such as UDP or BOTH, not sure what these means...

TCP is the right protocol setting. It sounds like you've done everything right. What custom port did you use? Common alternative http ports like 88, 8080, and 8888 might be blocked by the ISP.

Thanks Russ for the quick reply...I have 9888 as custom port, would my Dlink switch be causing the issue or how do I find out if my ISP is blocking certain ports? I also used portfoward's port checker, the it said that the port is not open or reachable...

I've been trying for few days, using my iphone, external computers as well, still not responding, I think it's a problem either on my router or the port.

A basic switch won't do any filtering or blocking.

One thing to check: the Apex default gateway setting must be the IP address of the router LAN.

Does it work by accessing the public ip directly instead of via DDNS?

Yes, all the Apex network settings are in sync w/ the router's except the Apex unit static IP and port, I tried the direct IP address but it didn't respond, I know it's the right IP because I could ping it...I just typed in the IP:9888 but nothing responding

would it be the Apex unit issue? If I can access on the LAN side, does it mean the WAN function would be functioning? I'm thinking it could also be a defect on the Apex unit itself

Apex is fine if you can access internally. Russ will get you going...

All better now! :dance:

He had everything right with the Apex, router, & dynDNS. The VoIP gateway in the chain was the problem. A little bit of network black magic, and all is good.

OMG!! Russ ROCKS!! :rollface::rollface::rollface:

Thanks you so much for the walkthru of the settings over the phone, you are well knowledged in all of Apex and networkings...plus learned a few new terms. Would thank you in person w/ a few drinks if you're local...thanks again!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
