Help blue spot jawfish

I have a 90 gallon reef tank. It has been up for one year. I have had problems keeping blue blue spot jawfish. I just lost one. All my other fish are always fine. I have the following fish. diamond goby, yellow watchman, leneatus wrasse, golden rhomboid wrasse, chevron tang, 2 mandrins, cleaner wrasse, couple fire fish, They are always fine. My blue spots always end up getting white patches on there side & seem to loose there color. They always eat. I feed them frozen mysis or brine soaked in garlic. Water quality is always fine. Nitrates are always under 10. I have had a uv sterilizer on 24-7 for a few months. I had turned it off about a month ago. People have told me not to run it unless you have a problem. But even when that was hooked up I had the same problem. Any help or input would greatly be appreciated.

I believe that there is a type of bacterial infection that blue spot jawfish are prone to, blue jawfish disease and brooklynella, it is deadly and there is little to no treatment for it. I have read that some very experinced hobbyist no longer buy them for this reason. Brooklynella causes white patches and decreased coloration.

BSJs are notorious for randomly dying. Poke around with the search function... it's most likely not something you're doing or have control over, they come in with some sort of parasite/virus/etc.

They prefer cooler water also.

I just ordered a BSJ when you say cooler water how cool are you talking about???

I wouldn't go above low 70's, like around 72 or 73. They come from the pacific side of mexico, where water is much cooler than the atlantic side due to ocean currents, plus they aren't really a shallow water fish.

well this seems to be happing to BSJ. I noticed yesterday that his color wasn't as bright and he was not in his home.... So today when the lights came on he looks horrible. I mean fines are all jacked up and the are large white patches on his tail. This is very upsetting for me. I wish there is something that I can do to save him.

Does anyone think that if I setup my bio-cube to house him in colder water that it would help his condition?

I know that these photos are horrible for some people to see, but it could also be informational for others.

I just wanted to add that the fish is displaying some odd behavior's too. He is lying his head in the sand almost like he wants to sleep but can't. I'm sure that it want be long now and he will be gone.:sad1:
