Need some help deciding to go with newer technology with smaller sensor or older technology with full frame.

canon rebel t1i
digic 4
Facial auto focus
15 mpixels

canon eos 5d (older model)
digic 2
Larger sensor
better constructed
12 mpixels

I know price also plays into it, but taking that out of the equation just interested in what others would choose and why.

Thanks for your help.

I honestly have been using a Nikon D80 for a while, but have rented a few lenses and was struggling witht he price tag of the newer 70-200 nikon lense 2400$.

I can get the same L lense in canon but in an f/4 for 1100$ not to mention the lense selection etc just seems to have more options.

So while most people don't switch i feel as though before investing $$$$ in lenses now is the time. Plus I'm a little more informed now and have some experience.

I was planning on a 70-200 and 17-40 both f/4 canon lenses for both weight and $ issues. Figured the other focal range could covered by foot :).

As far as my experience i'm not making a living it is just an obsessed hobbiest that wants to also take pictures for family members, friends, and landscapes on vacations.

Thanks in advance
Brandon

What type of shooting do you typically do? Sports? Wildlife? Landscape? Architecture? Portraits?

I have lenses in the same focal lengths you mentioned and before i owned a 5D i used them on a 20D and to be honest, those lenses are just perfect on a full frame. On a crop body, i found the 70-200 to be too long for anything but sports/wildlife/outdoor stuff and the 17-40 just wasn't as wide as i had hoped for. Once i slapped them on my 5D, i swear that the clouds in the sky opened up and i could hear angels singing in my head. Everything just fell into place. The 70-200 became an awesome portrait lens and the 17-40 became an awesome wide angle for landscapes, and architecture. I haven't pulled my 20D since.

Thanks for your help...... I went with the 5D it will be here Thursday I can't wait.

Which Flash do you use any advice?
