Hi,
I did a few searches of RC and Google trying to see if my Blue Green Chromis has some sort of disease, but need some clarification:
Situation:
I purchased a small fish tank for quarantine use. However, the owner sold it with two fish, a Blue Green Chromis and a Damsel. I probably should have just waited for a fishless tank, but this one was a good deal.... so, new quarantine tank, two fish, waiting to be sure they are disease free...
I recognize that the damsels are aggresive and have tried to put tubes etc where the Chromis can hide out, but the reality is, that it is still being harassed by the damsel... nothing I can do about that for now. I will avoid this in the future.
The question: I noticed the Chromis has some lighter white patches on its body (would post a pic, but he won't listen to me when I say to hold still). They seem to just be lighter in color, with a number of patches on both sides.
They don't look like "white cotton" which would seem to indicate a fungal infection and the patches are not small white dots that would indicate ich. I'm a newbie. So, maybe I am over simplifying and missing the obvious.
I've tried to refine a search on white patches, but it doesn't seem to help. I looked at some pictures of fish diseases online, and none quite match.
Trying to figure out what it might be:
- Is this just a natural discoloration that can happen from stress?
- Is it not white and cotton like because it is the early stages of a fungal infection?
- Is there some other disease I am missing (I am sure that this is probably the case...)
My main tank has been setup for about a month now. Stable, and cycled. No fish or corals added yet. If the main issue is stress, I think I would just move the Chomis over to the main tank (though he's only been in quarantine for about 2 weeks now). However, I don't want to drop a diseased fish into the tank if that is actually the case.
Thanks in advance for the help!
