my water parameter is
9-10DKH of alk
1290PPM of MG
450 of CA
SG 1.024

every since i started my tank, my corals started forming blisters on the end of the tips. I dont know why, but i've readed the previous thread and found out low MG would do this to you, but my mg is at a good level. why do this do this?

Dave, your mg is a little low. Should be 3x the Ca ~1350. I try to keep mine at 1400, everything seems to do better.

while i agree with the recomendations so far, i don't think any of them are the cause for coral blister's. what exactly do they look like? what types of coral are they on?

You mean like these?

yeah exactly like that, but instead of one big one, it's alot of tiny ones. my stylo is covered with it.

What coral varieties is it affecting?
What varieties is it not affecting?

How long has it lasted?

Mine only happened to this single Acropora, lasted a few weeks [has happened more than once, though not for quite a while] ... and didn't seem to cause any long-term harm to the coral.

I changed a lot of water, kept things as stable as possible.

granulosa, gomzei, echinta, yongei, and losettee. it has stayed this way since i started, it isnt a single acro that is doing this, majority of my acros as doing this. my SG is now 1.026

I recently sent Eric Borneman some pics of this condition, and heres a few quotes from that email conversation:

looks like you have a tissue-skeletal anomaly that has been presented as a type of coral neoplasia that is relatively common in Acroporids

Basically, the areas affected are not usually reproductive and you may see some local loss of tissue with a hard nodule formed, but the colony integrity is typically maintained.

I wouldn't say this is very common in our reef tanks. There must be some specific water parameter causing this....not that I know what it is ;)

Sorry - Ressurect!

Sorry - Ressurect!

Found this thread through a google search.

What do you all think of these? Is it similar?

I'm into my second water change with ESV B-Ionic. In total I've changed out around 90 gallons of my 165 gallon total system volume over 4 weeks.

Nitrates are reading 4 PPM.
Salinity around 34 PPT
Phosphates are around 0.04 PPM
Ca at 470 PPM
kH at 3.4 meq/l
Mg at 1340 PPM

Yep - I have already lost around $1500 worth (30 frags or so). Its affecting Monti's, milli's, Pocilliporas, Acro's, Scroll (or Pagoda's Cup), Pectina, Hidden Cup Coral and a stylophora too.
