Help Derasa shut tight

I noticed that my 6" derasa (I have had the clam for almost two years)has not been opening at all in the past couple of days so I pulled it and my maxima out and sure enough found those tiny pest snails on both and scrubed them off (time to find a six line wrasse), the maxima looks better and is fully open but the derasa is still shut tight. Is this a bad sign? Do Derasa's stay shut when they die unlike crocea and maximas? The clam never showed any gaping at all.

How is the Derasa doing this morning? I just lost another one of my clams the other day. Doing fine the day before and wham dead the next day.

how did you get the pyramid snails after 2 years? do you have any pictures of them? and are they easy to spot on your clam?

the snails must have come in on a coral or another clam, they are tiny and look like rice, the best way to get them off is a toothbrush

So should you inspect your clams reguarly? like teake them out and closely look for these things? I am not sure if I would notice one if I saw it?.?!?>

I will from now on, I've lost two clams (including the Derasa) and my maxima is not looking too good either, I may have gotten the snails off too late. I think they may have come in with a order of snails I got a couple of months ago. Right now I am looking at getting a six line wrasse and leaving my tank clam free for a while, very depressing :(

Just lost my DERESEA of 3 years. Always checked on the shell but never thought to check the foot. When it died suddenly I looked and there was no foot left. Snails must have eaten it and gone inside. I do have those snails as I see them on my Astreas[might explain why I'm losing those as well] but how do you clean them off the bysal gland if the clam sticks to your live rock or even a clam shell?

Can someone give me more info on these snails. I have some snails that look like rice in my tank. I thought they were baby ceriths.

IMHO a six-line or yellow wrasse should always be included in a tank with clams.

What if a person already has a mandarin in the tank? And it's only 90 gallons.

Mandarin/Wrasse

I guess you just hope that you don't get pyramid snails. A six line or yellow wrasse would eat most of the Mandarin's food supply.
