Help! Did my shrimp get eaten

Clowns are territorial. You will find this out, eventually. They like to bite hands. Either get a larger tank or rehome your fish and get some dwarf pygmy gobies or similar.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard it elsewhere though that 1" of fish per gallon of water is ok. The clownfish and damsels are all of the smallest variant.

And they seem to be doing ok.

What would I be jeopardizing if I kept them in the nano 6 gallon tank? What are normal lifespans for them anyway? I half expected them to die within a week and here they are 3 months in, seemingly thriving. I get that they're stressed in a small tank. But heck, so are a lot of us, living in Manhattan in 400 sq ft apartments.

Your comparison isn't quite right. Try getting 3 of your biggest friends into your refridgerator or a small walk in closet. Feels snug... try living there pooping peeing and sleeping there... Not very fun. Now imagine if you sealed that so that you had to reuse the same air over and over again... What you jeopardize are all of their lives. Clowns can live 15-18+ years from what I've heard. Think you'll be lucky to get 1 year out of any of the living things in that tank.
Sorry not trying to be harsh or rude. We all learn this one way or the other. Good luck finding what will work in your tank and have fun with the hobby! You must be doing something right if you kept them alive this far so thats good news.

Yeah, the worst part is that the damsels are all total cowards. They hide behind my fake plants 90% of the time. And yet they bully my two clowns non stop, as well as my dead shrimp. Meanwhile, the clowns are social, explore the whole tank, and beg for food. If those two damsels keep it up, it's the toilet for them.

I researched compatibility online and the matrices I found had clownfish compatible with the damsels. Funny, the sheet mentioned the clownfish being territorial.

They may be compatible given the correct amount of space... Also please don't flush the fish. Give them back to the place you bought them. Most fish stores will take back fish or put them on craigslist. Killing them is pretty terrible...

this post says to me you really don't care all that much for the lives of these animals. esp the bolded part.

eventually those clowns will turn to be as bad, or worse than the damsels. like mentioned above, they WILL likely bite you every time you stick your hands in that tank at some point, and i'm certain it'll happen sooner than later.

you can take any of those fish back to probably ANY fish store and they will gladly take them, some might even give you in-store credit to use towards a fish much more suitable to your tank. or like was mentioned above a simple Craigslist ad will probably also get them a new home.

Though i think your best bet is to take all 4 of those fish back to a fish store, and return them for store credit. Then find yourself a shrimp goby and a pistol shrimp, OR search up in the nano tank forums for other nano size fish ideas, there's only a very small handful that work in tanks that small so its not a long list.

here's an example of a shrimp/goby pair that stay very small and would be perfect for your tank.

plus they are awesome to watch to boot.

edit: another option is to purchase a larger tank, such as a 40 breeder $40 during petco dollar per gallon sale, and return the damsels and keep the clowns.

These animals are an inconvenience to you and you didn't do much if any research or use any form of sense when purchasing them, couldn't even be bothered asking their adult size. I'm not sorry that I'm being rude because you are clearly a vile excuse for a human being, flush them indeed, alive, shame on you.

Alreighty then, why don't you tell us how you really feel PinstripePython! Oh wait, notbody cares :hammer: Go take your senseless bashing elsewhere!

Lets see the OP obviously is new and came asking questions. This does not help to educate anyone. And by the way there are a fair number of young people on this forum as well. So you may have just bashed someone that is 13, good role model. If you can manage to climb off of your high horse try to offer something constructive.
