Help! Does anyone know of a quiet pump to run on a closed loop?

Ugh! I am so mad. I purchased a quiet one 5000 to run my closed loop on my 40 gallon breeder tank. I did a test tonight and this thing is too loud! Does anyone know of a quieter pump to use on a closed loop? I'd really appreciate your help. It is hard plumbed. I do not believe the noise is coming from the plumbing. It's the pump. Please any advice on a quiet pump? This is going to be a SPS, LPS, and clam tank. Please! Help?!?! Thank you.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please? I cannot hear my TV over this pump. There is no way I'd be able to sleep with that pump going. =(

I use a dart sequence dart on my closed loop. My skimmer and overflow are louder than this pump. It has been going for about 1 year no problems.

dont get a dart. dartd do wat like 3000 gph . ur tank will have way to much flow get a pasidon they sell them a marin depot look in the pump sections they r really quiet

One quick fix you can try is to place your pump on something to absorb the vibration like a mousepad, etc. If you're looking to replace the pump entirely, I'd recommend the Eheim universal internal/external pumps. I've been looking to set up another tank in my bedroom as quiet as possible and from what I've been researching, the Eheim seems the best choice. There's a few threads floating around in the equipment forums about the quietest pumps.

I had 2 Q1's that I tried on my closed loop. One was quiet ... the other was always making some rattling noise, but due to a design flaw in my CL they never primed so I returned them. However they ran cool and least affected tank temp. I also tried a Mag 5 & 7 both were super hot and leaked on an external CL. I would try to exchange that Q1 5000 for another one ... perhaps the one you got sucks :(

You could try an Eheim. I have a 1260, I can just hear it if I concentrate on it. A little less output than the QO 5000. The 1262 is 900 US Gal/hour, from memory. However, I would take the Eheim just the same.

What are better? Ehiem's or Velocity? I need it to be as Quiet as Possible. I live in an apartment and the other tenants will complain about the noise. I also have to be able to sleep through the noise. This would not be possible with the Quiet One 5000! It sounded like an airplane taking off. Please help me. I can't return it to the vendor because I bought it off ebay. I did buy it new however. Blue how quiet are the Ehiem's? I could always sell this Quiet One then save to buy a new pump. =(
Please help.

Im thinking about a ocean runner 6500 it does 1700 gph and is on sale right now at Foster and smith i would check them out !

Get an Eheim. They are the best. You will not be disappointed. All I can hear, without trying hard, is the trickling of water. Plus, it pumps like a gigolo.

if I bought an ehiem it only pushes 900 gph. I will have my return which pushes 700gph give or take. Would this be enough flow to house SPS, LPS, and Clams? I do not want to add any seios or anything else to the tank. That is why I am going with a closed loop system. I want a clean look. I'd appreciate your help. This has me very frustrated.

Don't get caught up worrying about figures too much. You'll drive yourself around the twist.

Look at it this way: You want a good quiet pump and you want ample flow.

I believe an Eheim will provide you with what you want.

If you must worry about figures, the Eheim figure is conservative. Eheims really do the job better than any other pump on the market. They are the best, it's that simple.

I tell you now, Eheims are quiet and you will not go wrong. I think there is a bigger modal than the 1262, if you want something with more grunt.

All the best with it.

HI,
That is the strongest Ehiem pump I could find. I was recently advised to get a Poseidon p4 then add fans which is what I have already done. What does everyone think? Ehiem or Poseidon? I cannot find a stronger Ehiem pump then the 1262
