I'd say give the nem a few days to move around and check out other places in the tank. It may take a while for it to find a place in the tank that it really likes. Chances are since you just placed it in your tank today that it hasn't wanted to move around much yet. however if it really likes the area it's at then yes it will become defensive and kill off anything thats it it's way. Keep an eye on it...if you're possitive it's going to make the area it's at now it's home then do some moving around with your corals. Some BTA's I've seen like to wander a bit, some are pretty stationary. If you have clowns to host it, it will become more stationary and generally wont move once it's found its perfect spot.

is it likely that when its moving it will kill everythin in its path?
or does it take a while for it to sting and kill other corals?

I've never seen a BTA just wander around and kill everything in it's path. I've only been in the hobby for two years but between myself and two of my buddies who have been reef keeping for much longer I've seen quite a bit! If it doesn't like the "smell" from a particular coral or if it feels threaten then it might sting something but I wouldn't worry too much about that happening. Generally when I've started up new tanks I like to let it cycle for a loong time and then add an anemone before I add any corals...just for your future reference...that way you can be sure the nem has found it's home before you introduce corals. Keep an eye on it...if you see it's moving you can try to move corals out of the way though I think it'd be hard to tell exactly where the nem wants to move to next. You can also try moving the BTA yourself. Just be very careful...if it's not satisfied with the spot it's at now it will be much easier to pick up and move as opposed to when a nem has found a suitable home, it's nearly impossible to move it.

I used to move coarls out of the way when my anemone was getting to close. my lfs said to leave the coarls be and the bta will keep on movin until it finds its own spot.
I bet it moves. but i wouldent try to move it

Noob, good advice above but also there is a chance it will stay put and the corals around it will sting the anemone.
I have seen this happen many times, forcing the anemone to withdraw it't tenticles that are closest to the item stinging it.
So watch for that also.
There are also times where they get along just fine. That is not however normal but it does happen.
I have shrooms and a large BTA touching each other all day and neither is at all bothered by the others exhistance.
Just keep an eye out for retracting tenticles or closing zoos or shrooms. Then it is time to move something.
