Hi I have a 180 Gallon FOWLR with a bunch of fish that I am moving to a new 220G reef tank (Ive already sold the non reef safe fish). I had an outbreak of ich a couple of times and tried getting rid of it with cupramine but unfortunately was never able to get rid of it probably due to the fact I never got rid of the 200 LBS of live rock while dosing. This time I completely emptied the tank except for the sand and am trying to get rid of the ich with cupramine.
My first problem is I added 2 new fish right into the tank because I was planning on treating the entire tank for 4 - 6 weeks and getting rid of the ich once and for all. I have my cupramine levels at somewhere between .4 and .5, but definitely not over .5. After 3 days my powder blue tang and my kole tang are dead after having a really hard time breathing. All of my other fish are struggling to breathe as well now. I fear they will all be dead by morning after having them in this tank for over a year and being healthy fat and eating. Is there anything i can do? or just hope for the best? Did some fast acting parasite from the new fish wipe them out? I dont understand I have never had a problem dosing with cupramine whether it be in QT or my DT. Ive treated many fish for my other tank successfully in QT and now all of the sudden all the fish are dying. The only thing I can think of is either its brooklynella from one of the new fish or its because I only waited 36 Hours instead of 48 Hours to do the 2nd dose of cupramine bringing the concentration to .5. If anyone can help Id appreciate it.
