sorry for the two threads one can be closed... i figured id get more views from the other section since there was a lot of people looking.... but i didnt
I moved the fish over to my established QT tank and im just waiting to see what this is. I thought at first the sore on her side could be a sting from the RBTA but i dont think so anymore.

Looks like a bite or cut to me. I would observe in your QT until this clears up. Do WCs often (to maintain good water quality), and soak his food in vitamin supplements to boost the immune system. Hopefully this clears up without infection; but if it does at least you'll be able to treat with antibiotics in QT.

what do you recommend for antibiotics

I like Furan-2. It contains Nitrofurazone and Furazolidone, which treats both gram-positive and gram-negative infections. It also seems to be readily available at most LFS. Erythromycin is another good one; but it only treats gram-positive (which is what the vast majority are anyway).

I'll go to my lfs today and see if they have furan2 ... I've googled so many diseases and I can't find anything like that

The keys to success when treating with antibiotics is being careful not to overdose, increasing aeration during treatment and being patient. Antibiotics can sometimes be very slow acting and will require multiple rounds of treatment. And just because the fish doesn't look like it's getting better, doesn't always mean it's not getting better. Sometimes you just have to have a little faith and stay the course.

Well I went to the lfs and they didn't have any... so I got this other stuff that has the same things in it.... I showed them the pictures and they saaaid they have no clue what the thing on her jaw is and the wound on the side could be from the rbta.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the rant, but it always amazes me how LFS won't carry real meds. However, they always have the latest reef safe miracle like Herbtana in ample supply..

Yup they had no medicine at all... she gave me something for infections but I wanted the stuff you mentioned. I'm going to order some online just to have it . They couldn't even tell me what was wrong with the fish

well the fish healed in QT and was good as new.... i put him in the tank last night before bed so the lights were off and the 2 clowns and my mystery wrasse were sleeping.... this morning i woke up and the fish were still asleep... i went out side for awhile came back in the fish were awake and my mystery wrasse killed the goby. Does this mean my wrasse wont let me put anymore fish in the tank? and ill have to take him out for awhile add the fish i want then put him back in the DT

congratulations about the healing! There are way more sad stories than success ones when it comes to medicating sick fish. Good job! Sorry that it didn't go far, though. But at least give yourself a pat on the back for that.

Mystery wrasses can be horribly mean I've read. What I suggest is when you get a new fish, catch that sucker and re-located him for a week (or how long you're QTing the new fish). Sump is good! That way its the same water and no need for acclimation.

When the new fish is ready to go in, put the new guy in there and let him get situated for a few days. Then return the wrasse. It will then be the "new" fish in the tank.

IME, most wrasses are great when small but turn nasty as they get bigger. Sorry to hear you went thru all the trouble of healing the goby just to have this happen. :(

im proud of myself for having the patience to QT the goby since i dont have a top off on that tank so eeeevery night i have to go back in the back room top off with freshwater... its really sad, the fish seemed like it was very comfortable with me while it was in QT... would swim right up to my hand and take food from me. it even swam and sat in the palm of my hand for a few minutes... so im kinda upset over losing this fish.

As for the wrasse, i know where he sleeps but its not a very easy spot to get him out. I can try the bottle trick but hes such a shy fish that i think that will be very hard to catch him in. My clowns will go right in and they are like my goby too... eat out of my hand.

Ill try what FretFreak13 said and stick him in the sump while i get a new fish for the tank. When I get a new fish of course... now that the goby has been out of the tank for almost a month I have yet to see its pistol shrimp friend. Or even a burrow anymore.

oh man! so sorry to hear about your loss. It can be tough when you have a relationship with the fish. If it helps, your success in treating gives the rest of us encouragement!

I applaud you.
