Help! Fluval M40 or M60?

yeah use the brs screen.

lol my fish like going back there also.

get a kessil light. a160we would probably do but a360we would be okay as well

How are you liking the Kessil over the tank? I plan on putting an AI Prime on my tank simply for the WiFi capability.

Not that it is really relevant to your decision at this point, but I just did my first water change with the integrated system and wow is it easy! Just be sure to attached a hose to the drain piece to ensure no water gets in the cabinet.

Hope your decision making is going well!

Hi everyone - I made my decision, and picked up the M60 this past weekend. I got it for $430 out the door, with everything but the light. Came with the stand, skimmer, heater, filter pump, circulation pump, lid, salt, bucket for water changes, pretty much everything but the sand and liverock.

I decided not to go with the Fluval Sea light that they had for it ($160). Instead, I did some searching online and in forums, and decided that I'm going to try the Current Orbit Marine LED light ($120). I'm choosing that because of the good reviews and videos that I've seen about it, and because it is programmable for a 24 hour schedule. The Fluval light had to be switched manually from white to blue and on and off. I didn't want to go to some of the other more expensive options yet, as I probably won't have a need for it, at least not for quite awhile.

I'm excited to get the build going!

nice as an m90 owner I think you very well got the best of both worlds getting a programmable light.

What are you thinking stock wise?

The stocking plan is my next step - My daughter wants to help pick things out, and I want to teach her as we go, so I haven't decided on anything for sure yet. I would like to go with some of what worked well for me in past tanks - Alleni Damsel, Oscellaris, Six-Line Wrasse, variety of hermits, snails, cleaner shrimp. I've always wanted to try a shrimp/goby pair, and I always wanted to try a Yellow-Headed Jawfish. I want to get some really hearty, easy to keep soft corals... I've had Kenya Tree in the past, green star polyps. Would like to try some Palys.

I need to start researching - open to suggestions!

I have the M60 as well...been running for 2 years now. I still run the stock skimmer...I did change out the light to a Kessil 160 w/controller and im running an RW8 w/controller for flow. I love this little setup, I have stocked the tank with a diamond watchman goby and shrimp pair plus a fire goby. All three have been in the tank for about a year and a half, a lot of fun to watch the goby and shrimp :D

Bob

P.S. If you go the goby route you may want a top on your tank. Some of them are prone to suicidal tendencies !!

Cool - I am really interested in a shrimp / goby pair. I would love a yellow headed jawfish too, but not sure if I will have that deep of a sand bed or if this tank is big enough. My tank does have a lid on it, so no problem there.

Here are a couple of pics of the tank, with light on it. Gets filled this weekend!

Just an update on the tank - It's been up and running for 3-4 weeks now. Mixture of live and dry rock. First inhabitants are in... 4 astrea snails, 2 tiger trochus snails, and just added a black blenny.

I like the aquascape.

Jawfish are really fun little fish, but I am not familiar enough with the type of blenny you bought to know if there might be a conflict there.

Another update - really frustrating one this time... I had the black blenny (awesome fish with tons of personality) and a beautiful rusty angelfish. Both were doing great for several weeks. I then purchased a couple more snails, which must have brought ICH into the tank. It wiped out my two fish within a matter of a week... it was too late by the time they started to show symptoms, and they both only lasted a couple of days.

I'm open to advice from those with experience. My plan is to add all of the remaining invertebrates that I want, right now. More snails, hermits, shrimp, etc. Then I'm going to let the tank sit for about 6-8 weeks without adding anything else. I'm reading that this should allow for any remaining ICH parasites to die off.

Hi, i have had a M60 since May and love it, have had two disasters once got white spot and lost 7 fish and then messed up my water and was putting ro in instead of salt luckily only lost a nem and a few corals but now all good. I have a Dwarf Angel coral beauty, 2 black and white clowns, blue cheeked goby, cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp and some snails crabs and a sand shifter starfish.
What have you stocked yours with and how is it going for you ?

Wow, you have a lot of stock in a little tank!

It is going OK for my tank. I also had a "white-spot" or "ich" breakout last spring after adding some clean-up critters... it killed my black blenny and dusty angel. :thumbdown I let the tank sit for about 7 weeks after that without adding anything.

I first added a blue damsel, then a lawnmower blenny. I also have some green star polyps, pulsing xenia, and some zoas. It's been about 6 months and they are all doing well, and I have noticed snails and stars and worms and pods thriving and reproducing.

I am ready to start adding the fish I want, but have another problem - caulerpa. It came in on some liverock and has gone out of control. I was able to get rid of all of the grape caulerpa, but not the razor caulerpa. It has infested my rocks and I can't keep up with it. I'm thinking of trying a sea hare or a juvenile fox-face rabbitfish to get rid of it... don't know what to do. I don't want to add any more corals until I have it under control. I feel like my whole tank is at a stand-still because of it.

Just found this thread. I have the M90. I have had it for almost 2 years. I upgraded to a Tunze skimmer, I had terrible results with the stock Fluval Skimmer. I still am using the stock lights but looking to upgrade soon. Great to see so many folks have these tanks now.
