bump, I hope you can answer these questions.

Sorry, the ones that open look very healthy, the ones that are not opening look like they are melted.. not sure what u mean by the skirt.

Far as fish go.

2 Perc Clowns that never leave the LTA
2 Green Cromis
1 Small Blue Tang (might be a suspect)
1 Small Powder Tang

The toxins released by the Xenia and Anenome might be bothering the Zoas. How often and how much do you change your water?

I do water changes pretty often, like ones a week or every other, about 20%.

My xenia have grown out of control. I have in the past taken a razor to them and thrown them in my sump and withen a day they attach to a rock. I never thought about it but I'm sure cutting them in half while in the tank might not be a good idea.

Thank you for answering my question. It seems as though you do not have an amphipod eater in your tank. I have had an issue in my tank where my larger polyp zoa/paly would not open up and look very shrunk. When I added I a pygmy angel he stared to hunt amphibods in my frag rack and my zoas made a quick turn around. I would suggest that you get a yellow corris wrasse or another amphipod eater to take care of the over growing issue.

Here is a link to another thread about the same issue I am talking about...

Question:
When the polyps open do they look like they are missing their skirt? Can you list all the fish you have in your system? I do not believe this is an issue with any of your fish attacking your zoas.

My new RPEs are doing this now.

So whats some good fish? I had a flame angel long time ago (Hmm and the zoos where healthy when he was alive).

I just want to make sure It wont give me any issues with other corals or fish, I know six line wrasse seem to be pretty popular.

Thank you for answering my question. Your pics looked familiar to the issue I faced in my tank. I was in the process of getting a yellow coris wrasse to deal with the issue, but since I had a nano my newly acquired pygmy angel did the trick.

I don't like telling people that this "fish" will solve your problems but if I were you I would look into getting a yellow coris wrasse. This is the best case scenario wrasse and isn't too expensive.

good luck and if you need any more info pm me.

Thanks for the advice, your suggestion does make sense, I have seen my pod population exploide, when the lights go out I see pods all over my zoo rocks (an all rocks) I just never thought they could be eating them or bothering them.

A little update, I purchased a Mandarin Spotted Goby, and hes been eating like a pig.

I also reduced my MH lights to just 5hrs, and Actinics to 8hrs.

Done several water changes, still no luck...

Any other suggestions?

Mandrains mouths are too small to eat the type of pod that prey on zoos.

I agree that you have an amphipod issue altho i cant see any in the pics. I lost many zoos before i figured it out and it looked just like your pictures to a T.

This is the type of devil you will find gnawing on your zoas. (I stole the pic from melevs site)

I would take the mandarin back and get a wrasse. Ornate wrasse or a sixline or even a green corris are all great hunters.
