My hubby and I have a 200 gallon tank.....I want a bubble tip anemone for our clown fish ....but he heard they reproduce like crazy and take over the tank...what would u suggest,if anything? I want baby clowns!!!!

Hi there, i know how you feel. it's a free country. why don't you just move in with me. i will let you have as many anemone as you want. I have a very nice pair of clowns that looking for a momie...

Getting an anemone will not "give" you baby clowns, plus only certain clowns are likely to host in a BTA, notably the maroon clown and i think a pink skunk probably will too. Ocellaris clowns MAY take to one but not necessarily and more likely not. If you don't want a BTA to reproduce too much, be sparing with feeding. Once a week to a fortnight should keep it from splitting, provided you have sufficient light to reach the zooxanthellaes' compensation point. With a tank that size you could always get a different (larger) anemone that is far less likely to split, such as a carpet or a sebae. They are easier to keep in one spot too as they are "sand" anemones. BTAs, Ritteris and others prefer to be perched on rockwork, which can lead to stinging, uncontrolled roaming, free-floating and ultimately a um... "clogged" powerhead - trust me i've been there.

bubble tips will NOT multiply too fast to manage. And as criccio said you can always sell the anemones that split to fellow reefers or the local fish store. You'll likely get less than 3 a year though so it isn't exactly a good living.

Those are 2 of the more difficult and most light demanding anemones which is why most people stick with other speicies.

Not only are those species hard to maintain, but finding them and then acclimating them to your tank is difficult too. Most go with BTAs hoping that their percs take to that instead. Most of the time it works also.

Baby clowns don't need an anemone and in fact require more than an anemone. You will need cultures of phytoplankton and rotifers and another tank altogether. Not to mention lots of luck.

what type of anemonie are true perc most likely to host?

I have a perc and is never hosted any corals. I addded a RBTA today and the clown hosted in less than an hour, but maybe I just got lucky

I have two different nems and after 2 1/2 months my clowns are still hosting the overflow.
You definitely got lucky.
