Has any one tried Chem Marine stop parasite on their reef tank, with clams in it and SPS, I did a search and could not find any information. I am trining to avoid breaking the tank down. I already have tried the garlic with no results does any one have another option that I could try?

Clamlvr, I have not used Stop Parasite so i cannot comment on its effectiveness, but I can tell you that clams are sensitive to foriegn chemicals and compounds in the water. Looking at your tank, with all the SPS and clams, I would leave it alone. If you can catch some of your fish, quarantine them and go the hyposalinity route.

While your fish are in quarantine, you can also nuke the parasite with whatever you choose. Ich is not harmful to corals or clams - if anything it provides food for them while in its larval free-swimming phase.

The cost of your fish is trivial compared to your SPS and clams. Be patient and wait it out. The longer you wait, the safer it will be. Ich cannot survive without a host.

Hmmm, had a similar problem with my Blue hippo tang for over a month, I tried the LFS Garlic bottle for $20 bucks to no avail. About a week later I bought a $3.00 bottle of garlic softgels from kroger and soaked the pellet and flake food in it for 5 minutes at every feeding, after a few days the Ich was gone :) It did come back twice during the next 2 weeks due to the Ich cycle but I kept this up during a 2 week period and it has never returned, this was 5-6 months ago.

Only gelatine and garlic in the gelcaps and it is more potent.

BTW, my Clams are fine of course........

I use pure garlic juice with all my food i feed and havent had a single episode of ich in over a year now. Pretty good for 3 tangs who use to get it constantly. I have not had any adverse reactions from my clams with the juice either-Guru
