Not to mention he looks like you can see his ribs. Are they supposed to be that skinny. I know they are suseptiable to ich and now i fear the worst. He is in a reef tank and i dont have a hospital tank. what should i do?

We'll you could always throw a hopital together. All you need is a cheap filter and heater and a rubbermaid container and a power head or air stone. And nope they are not supposed to be that skinny. Soak his food in garlic and get some selcon to soak in as we'll and that will boost his immune system and help to fight of the ick. Feed him alot of dried seaweed that is soacked in garlic and selcon as we'll.You can't treat with cooper or hypo in a reef tank as it will kill all your corals and invertabrates.

What are your water parameters? what size is the hippo and what other fishes do have in the tank? If all the water parameters are good and you still need to medicate try NO SICK FISH its the only reef safe medicine imo, try www.nosickfish.com its expensive but it works good luck and keep us posted.........

Reef safe meds don't work including the one listed above. There is to date absolutley no reef safe medication effective enough to guarantee the erradication of Cryptocaryon irritans. If you are told otherwise, dismiss the information.

Most of the info provided by Lisa is your best bet for a healthy fish and the future prosperity of your tank.

Since the tang is also showing signs of malnutrition, I would forgo the copper unless A. ocellatum is also suspected. The copper will just making the dietary problem worse. Stick with hyposalinity otherwise, fortify the algae based foods with both a vitamin and a HUFA based additive. Both, not one are needed.

Also as noted, the tang (any fish in this system) needs to be removed to a proper QT. Do not do this in your display system.

Cheers
