Hello,

I have a 55gal and I have a fish that is looking really bad! I am new to the hobby and have no clue what to do with this poor fish.

Help....ICH? Sick hipo

. If it's ich of course.... Are there holes on the fish or is that an illusion from the picture ? Are what looks like holes only discoloured patches? Maybe keep the 55 as quarantine ... Treat in there ( see stickies on ich) , but a fish this far along will most likely need antibiotics to treat secondary infection.

And set up a proper size tank to keep a tang ... Like a 180 g + and put your inverts in there while you qt and treat your fish ! let it sit in fallow for 72 days + before adding fish from the qt or new .This is extensively discussed on this forum... Do a little reading.

Many people will probably tell you it's too late, but why not try it? At this point what do you have to lose?

How old is the tank? Was it fully cycled? The picture your are showing remind me of ammonia burns than ich.

The hole are not a illusion, but they are not open holes in the skin more like that is how the deterioration is taking place. Ammonia checks zero.
The tank is about 9 months old and only had fish for about 5.
None of the others seem to be acting like anything is wrong with them. Should I treat them all?

Holes could be HLLE , could be hexamita ( marine head ) But since the op said ich I assumed you had seen ich and then left untreated it had progressively gotten to look like that ....or maybe you bought a fish trying to save it???

Whichever is the case....It's kinda important since the treatment protocols will be different.

If there is ich , yes treat everyone . If it's hexamita it's a gastrointestinal parasite... So usually treat the fish and do a preventive treatment on others and HLLE is caused by prolonged nutritional deficiencies so besides varying foods and adding vitamins there's really nothing else to do.

In every case stress is an issue and 55 gal. ( too small of housing ) Is a definite stress factor.

ginpang,

I am so new at the hobby I am not sure what it is. This is the only fish in my tank that appears to be having an issue. I just assumed it was ich because I have very little back ground and I have been reading a lot about common diseases and it seems that ich is a big one. S

So at this point should I just pull all my fish to a QT tank and treat with Cupramine or should I QT the few inverts and treat the whole DT?
I did not do the TTM when I started.... I wish I had now.

Looks like marine velvet. Have you ever done a copper treatment? if so, i would do it quick while he's still eating! put him in a QT tanks with lots of water agitation to increase oxygen and run cupramine a .5PPM!

I have a 10gal small tank, but I could use it now for a Qt. Should I use water from my DT or mix some new? What do I use to treat velvet?
