What should I do, this is my first experience with ICK, my yellow tang has ick all over it. Some help with treatment would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jon

I've had good luck with Garlic Guard, That is sold in LFS or use fresh Garlic crushed and pour the juice in food and let soak then throw the rest in your tank. Keep this up until gone then soak their food every now and then to build their Immune system up. It worked well for me, Or you can treat with medication.

There are certain kinds that will Tom. Moslty invertrabtes. I had a urchin that pretty much dissolved after I added some stuff to treat ick. Make sure you read the label good and ask about it before using. Wish you the best.

I used kick-ick and it works, did not stress and coral. sps/lps and softies. just do what it said to ,. here the directions on the use of it.

Beginning on Day 1 add 2.0oz of Kick-Ich for each 25gal of total water volume for the entire aquarium + filter system(s). Repeat on days 4, 7, 10 & 13 whether or not spots continue to be visible (For heavy infections repeat on days 3, 5, 7, 10 & 13). Persistent infections may require repeating the cycle.

Do not use carbon or similar absorbent media during treatment (phosphate absorbents are OK). Protein Skimmers can appreciably reduce effectiveness of the treatment. Safe for all fish (including scaleless fish), plants, corals and invertebrates. Will not affect biofiltration

By day 13 my ick was gone. polpys on sps was out and no stress to any of my corals through treatment.hope this helps you.and EBAY has it in stock 2 weekends ago.

Doing hypo will be one of the solutions. I will NOT advise in using Copper or Malachite Green. They are both very harmful to your fish!! Copper is especially harmful to Tangs, it does damage to their liver. I will highly suggest fresh Garlic treated foods. Good Luck!

you can go about this two ways, try to cure the ick completely or get it's level down enough so the fish can fight it off naturally.

To 100% get rid of it, you will need a quarantine tank and either use copper or hyposalinity treatment while leaving your main tank fish free for at least 4-6 weeks. I put my naso tang through copper a few years ago and she came through it ok but you have to closely monitor your copper levels with "sensitive fish"

If you want to give your fish a fighting chance and leave everything in your main tank, fresh garlic mixed into their food is the best method and garlic guard comes in a close second.

good reason to set up the big tank to QT the fish :) I think all the answers above are correct I had it in my tank the first year but just used the feeding method and have not had the problem after the 2nd year. But I have heard a lot of good response to the Hypo method and If I get again will prob do that.
