I have a 120G SPS dominated tank. Total volume is 135G. 2X250 10K Hamilton MH, 2x54 (1 True Actinic, 1 Actinic plus) and a 48" Blue Reefbrite. For flow I have Tunze 6065 (always on 1700GPH), Tunze 6045 (always on 1200GPH) and alternating Tunze 6055 (up to 1500GPH) and 6101 (up to 1850GPH) plus a nano wavebox generating about a 3/4 inch wave.

I do 10% weekly water changes using Tropic Marin Pro Reef, do not have a deep sand bed and have a Bubble King mini 180 (recent upgrade from SRO XP2000). I have no refugium/chaeto. Some bubble algae does manage to grow in the tank as well but I had a bit of dictyota that was not growing at all.

My parameters are

Ca 400 Saifert
Alk 7.5 Elos
Mag 1300 Seachem
Phosphate undetectable Elos
Nitrate almost undetectable Elos and Seachem

I don't have tests for anything else.

My fishload is 1 each - small true perc, small hippo tang (2.5 inches), midas blennie, two spot blennie, blue assessor, orchid dottyback, yellow wrasse, small mandarin a yellow clown goby. I feed equivalent of one cube of mysis daily.

I have a green film algae growing in the tank. I have read that near ULNS systems can suffer from cyano because it can fix nitrogen from the atmosphere. It is not like cyano that I have seen before. It does not grow on the sandbed or anywhere the light is bright and it is difficult to remove from surfaces it is attached to. It grows where it is sheltered from light e.g. under montipora, in shaded areas on the rock surface, in mats of zooanthids and what little green star polyps I have.

It was quite bad a while ago - I did a three day lights out and seachem phosban to wipe it. It cleaned up but is starting to come back again.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

I forgot to mention - all top up and water changes are RO/DI with 0 on the TDS meter. Tank has been up for 5 years and I supplement with Kalk for top up boosted by Tropic Marin bio-calcium.

I have just switched to balling light (Randy's 2 part plus mag) and added warner bio pellets but all these things have been done in the last couple weeks and the problem predates this (started in August).
