I got this from my LFS for $5.00 they were selling it for $25.00 but they think it will not make it because of the white spots all over it. I think they had it mislabled. They called this a fingure sponge, I don't think thats what it is. I know they did have it out of the water for a few seconds. If it is a sponge and they had it out of the water will it die for sure and should I just remove it from my tank?

I'm thinking that's a leather coral, and it may recover if given moderate to lower light and good water conditions. Those white spots are necrosis, but they can heal vigorously if given a chance.
Run carbon, and give it good but not brutal flow.

Low light, I will move it down in my tank. My water conditions are excellent ....Thanks mostly to you Sk8r. You helped me through a cyano outbreak when my tank was only a few months old. I will see what I can do to save it.

Thanks Again,
Dave

looks like a lobophytum.

i'd clean those spots off and give it moderate flow, 2"~3" per sec. like sk8r suggests.
