That's what I thought! Thank you. Any idea whether it's male or female? Now that I know the positive ID, maybe I can add a few more female.

Here's mine - - gorgeous but a bit belligerent for my tank, so I found him a better home

According to S.Michael -on the male the second & third dorsal spines are greatly elongated & have yellow tufts (cirri) at the tips while the female only has the third dorsal spine prolonged - He goes on to say they do fine with fish like moderately aggressive tankmates - pygmy angels, medium sized dottybacks & surgeon fishes
Mine bullied a blackcap basslet and our Shetland sheepdog - well maybe not the dog.- Great fish! Wish i'd had a more appropriate tank for it.

Hardy with a capital H and a pig of an eater. Oh - Michael also mentions they must have high quality food to keep the vibrant colors from fading. I promise, if you put the high quality food in the tank - he will eat it!

Enjoy!

Oh I forgot to mention the males also get a thick protuberance on the upper "lip"

Marie, thanks for the info. Great picture. I just got mine last night.
So far it likes Hikari Mysis & pellet, but not PE Mysis. I wonder if those are good enough food to keep his color vibrant. I have to pay more close attention to his dorsal spine then to determine male or female.

You'll know it's a male when that upper lip thing gets really defined....

Give him time - soon he will be all-eating - I think is general the PE mysis has everything it needs - but Cyclopeeze is very nutritious and is also fortified with astaxanthin which is a r-e-d algae that is very nutritious and would turn Shamu pink :D
