I have these reddish brown hard poky things on my live rock, they are tubular in shape and appear to have a opening on the end. I have never seen them move, retract or anything come out of them. I would like to know if they are ok in the tank or if I need to try to get rid of them some how. They are stuck to the rocks pretty good. I am pretty new to all this but from pics I have seen I am leaning towards identifying them as Vermetids

Any input much appreciated.

Nothing, IMO they are harmless. They can, like many other things, "bloom" in response to available nutrients. They can also grow inside tubing and such. But overall they are normal, natural and IMO are not a real problem. If you do find a lot of them, remember to cut back on feeding.

Thank you, I think we will let nature be until something proves hazardous or irritant to other tank dwellers.
