Hello,

Can someone help me identify this algae in my tank? I have light green algae and also dark brown tiny dots of algae and can't figure out what it is. Pics are attached.

If that green stuff is hard to get off the rocks then it's probably just a prelude to the purple Coralline algae we all love so bad. As far as those dots your seeing goes, if they come off easily it might be Diatoms. If not, Foraminiferans is a possibility.

I tried scraping the green algae off and rubbed it, but it is not coming off. I put a turbo snail over it too this morning and it is still there. There are little tiny areas that are diatoms with a lighter brown that I can rub off easily probably from my diatom algae bloom I recently had. But these dark blackish dots are harder to get off. I haven't heard of
Foraminiferans, should I worry about that?

Thanks! That helps a lot, I think it might be another diatom outbreak, I noticed some lighter brown in there, but I am going to wait another day and see how they spread. I think it is easier to tell what it is when they grow out a little bit more.
