So I have a 65 gallon with a reef octopus 100bh skimmer. I had been thinking the bh 100 is a bit small for my tank so I found a good deal on a lx1000 skimmer which I bought on craigslist. The pump would work for a few minutes and then quite working when I got home. So I was basically wasted money on that. So I thought ok fine I should just build a sump and get an in sump skimmer and do it right now that the tank is in a more permanent home.
So I went to a few local stores. The first one was trying to sell me new stuff was a bit pricey so I went to another and he was like here ya go overflow box and a pump 20 bucks. I was like that's cheap great! Problem is the overflow has no branding or anything on it so I don't know what the GPH back to the sump would be. Its smaller so I'm assuming only 300 or so which should be ok for a 65. But he gave me a 900gph pump which I think is going to be too fast. The box is about 6.5 inches wide and 12 inches tall. Thinking I'd be better going back and asking him to swap me with something in the 400-600 gph range?
The Eshopps 300gph overflow is 6x10 thus why I'm thinking in that range
Any ideas on what a box like this should out flow??
