HELP! idiot with 500 babies!

I agree with you LadyFSU - these kids are learn more from this about life and responsibility then any other time in your lives. What a learning experience! They will carry this with them forever! Good luck with everything!

I meant I think it's really cool and agree with ReefArtist that it's a great learning experience for your class to raise them. <BR>I was talking about setting them free later when they get big as part of that full experience and for the benefit of the species. I didn't know there was some rule the off spring couldn't be returned, Hm.. that's why this is a great forum, always learning more every day!

SoundsFishy2me2 - that is great information as I didn't know that either. Always learning and we just learned something - can I go home now :D.

LadyFSU - If you need anything like an extra 10g tank or so - just give us a PM.

How are the babies?
I just now saw your post and did not realize that you had acquired a wc seahorse and an erectus at that. I had only sucessfully raised 3 fry from birth (45 fry) with my mated pair of erectus. Unfornately I lost 3 males in the last 6 months from a terrible occurence in the tank and have been left with 2 females. I am currently waiting for Dan to offer erectus for sale and am currently checking Draco for one.
If you need any advice I would be happy to help. The one thing I learned the hard way was to feed them frozen mysis as soon as possible. I had raised mine out of the nursery to the first grow out tank and they died from malnutrition.

Well, we are down to about 35 babies, but they are swimming around nicely and eating. None have died for the last 4 days. I'm reading all I can, but I'm really doing this without everything I need.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I didn't have enough BBS, so I put in a TINY bit of cyclopeeze (the frozen kind) just hoping none would starve before I had BBS, and several of them went wild for it!!

At about what age do you think I should start trying the mysis?

You can start trying the mysis anytime you want now. Just be sure to shave it down into small pieces. This is best done with a razor blade or sharp knife while it is still frozen. Just shave it off the cubes or chunks of mysis and try it. If some of them are taking the cyclop-eze that is a good sign that they make take the mysis fairly easily.
