Help in finding standard drillable tank

Hi,

It's been a while in the making but I'm finally nearing the redo of my old 75g tank. New floors in our home necessitated the move of my tank inhabitants to a temporary tank in the basement, so now I'm acquiring new equipment and building a new tank setup.

Part of the setup involved purchasing a Deep Blue Professional 75g non-tempered tank which I was going to drill for a Modular Marine "ghost" type overflow (already purchased) on the back pane. When I called my LFS to inquire about purchasing the tank they informed me that Deep Blue was out of business. I also confirmed that with another LFS. My LFS only carries Aqueon and Marineland. From experience, I know that Aqueon is making tanks with tempered glass panes in either random or multiple locations, since I had to return one previously when I discovered the back pane was tempered and thus non-drillable. My LFS also told me that Marineland is also doing the same thing as Aqueon, that is, using tempered glass on their tanks in locations they previously did not. However, when I went to Marineland's website, I noticed their response to a question (from about a week ago) regarding the use of tempered glass on a 75 gal tank was that only the bottom pane is tempered. I sent this question direct to Marineland and am waiting for a response, but does anybody know if Marineland has changed to the use of tempered glass in random or multiple locations on their tanks? If so, are there any manufacturers of standard tanks left who are not using tempered glass, or at least, only using it in specific designated locations (like they always did)?

Hate to think I'd have to go custom for just a "standard" 75. Already got a feel for some "custom" prices and the shipping alone exceeds what I would have paid for a standard 75.

I "think" Deep blue may have just changed names to Sepora aquariums...
You might want to look at sca, waterbox and others if you want a proper overflow system.
Deep blue was quite a bargain...sad to see they are gone..i love my 80g rimless from them

Mcgyvr,

Thanks a million. Checked on Seapora. They are carried by Fishtanksdirect.com. I confirmed with them that Deep Blue went out of business but they are building tanks under the Seapora brand. Waiting for them to confirm specs regarding use of tempered glass and whether or not they can get Seapora's Modell 11076 (75 totally non-tempered). Price compared to LFS obviously much higher due to shipping but not outrageous and far less than a custom. Even better, they told me the manufacturer is in New York, so shipping to me in NJ would only be about a week or so.

Thanks again.

John

You are welcome..
They seemed to have started that transition a few years ago but information was a bit hard to come by...
Glad they are still "sort of" around..
I was very happy with the quality of mine.. Hopefully its still there..
