Help installing JBJ Arctica Chiller

The instructions for jbj 1/10 hp arctica say remove hose nut and rubber gasket. The gasket doesn't seem to come up easily, is this normal? I don't want to break anything.

Also, it mentiones pulling out a cork stopper. Is this literally cork, because there is no such piece of cork in my chiller. I am including a pic after the hose nut was removed, so far i've accomplished 1/2 of step 1. :/.

Pls help.

Keep in mind that my arctica is a 1/3hp model and it has been set up for a while. You have to remove the black tube from the input and output. that is the "cork". Also, the gasket was a little bit tough to pull out for me too.

Not a problem. If I remember correctly, I used a set of pliers to pull it out. I believe the black plastic tube, aka cork, just rests inside of the gasket. On a side note, I do love the chiller.

We got them off after hearing that they wouldn't be injured with a little bit of muscle. I will be installing on Tues night.

mecold, glad to hear the comment. It sure is expensive, but i'm tired of concerning myself with the temperature of the tank so much.

Best,

FWIW I absolutely love mine. It came in really handy the last heatwave we had here in CA. Temps reaching as high as 115F, my tank never went over 82F (that's how my controller is set), and this was with MH on

Your welcome! I love the set it and forget it temp on the front. I have a couple backup temp probes on the tank, but the display on the chiller is right on the money. The 1/3 hp is about as loud as a dorm fridge with a fan.

Well, mine is just 1/10 hp. I am hoping that this will be enough, the tank is 36g with 10g of water in the sump and a bunch of rock so total water volume should be somewhere around 40g. Anyhow, anything larger and my boyfriend would probably freak out. This is actually a bit larger than I had pictured, but it is ok.

I will report back next week with results:)

Thanks!

Thanks!

I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM six years later. Thanks to the folks in this thread, problem solved.

No thanks to BRS who sold me the chiller and could not provide ANY useful advice other than he'll tell the manufacturer to call me. The instruction say "Pull out cork stopper." Being a literalist, I saw no cork and being an idiot also did not notice the rubber gasket wedged on the bottom of the thread pipe. I called BRS and he said the cork is not always there and the rubber gaskets should have been in the bag of elbow connections included with the chiller. Which made me run out to the garbage to see if the gaskets were still in the box. Then I did a quick search here and all is good.

And BTW, when I went to the JBJ site for help (also no help), I noticed the chiller I bought from BRS costs $78 less if you buy from JBJ directly.
