Help! Is my red ball sponge dying?

I bought a red ball sponge at my LFS on Saturday and have been feeding it according to LFS. But the past two days, it seems to be shedding all of this red string all over my tank. Is it dying? If so, will the red stringy stuff hurt anything else in my tank? Thanks

These guys are tricky to keep. I can't really tell from your picture what the stringy stuff is. It could by cyano or it could be that it's experiencing some die-back. It may stop and it may not.

I've got one that's done quite well, but when I got another it died. I don't know what the circumstances were - differences in collection, etc.

what are you feeding it ?

the white stingi stuff are bacteria. Also, some sponges release toxins when dead.

sponges are not easy by any means. they consume bacteria mostly, require high and linear flow, and ....

they do change shape and ... according to current, so might be doing that, but I doubt it to be honest.

Good luck :)
