help -- leaking overflow

I finally got around to setting up a used overflow and DIY sump. One edge of the overflow box leaks along a corner seam. Looks like the leak is about 1 1/2 inch in length. How do I repair this? Can I use cyanoacrylite (super glue)? I assume that silicone is a no go.


Please help. I would like to get this going.

Ben I am assuming it is acrylic. You could just get some weldon #4 and a syringe and wick some #4 into the seam and it should reseal the seam. You could also use some Weldon #16 which is thicker in consistency but messier to work with, IMO LMK it I can help further.

You could also use Aquamend epoxy or other frag mounting epoxy. It works even when wet and under water. I would suggest roughing up the surface if possible if you are trying to use epoxy. The weld-On would probably be the best solution if you can locate some locally.

if box is secure and it is just a leak you can repair with silicone with no ill effects if you can let it be dry and then let it cure before filling back up.

Thanks for all the input! I will try and get some weldon #4. I'd like to at least try to repair what I have before getting another one. Steve, if I can't get this thing fixed by next weekend, I'll give you a call. Phil, I really appreciate the link to the store, it's actually right on my work commute.

Upon closer inspection I can tell that the overflow has been "repaired" before in this same seam. Will this have an impact on the effectiveness of the weldon?

If you use one of the thicker Weld-On products like #16 or #40 you can just tilt the box so that the syrupy stuff will stay in the proper area until it hardens. Then you should have a good watrerproof seam again.

Weldon was not available at House of Plastics. They told me it was internet only. Anyway, I bought some acrylic cement. It shoulc be cured by now. I will give it the leak test tonight. If it work, I'll be in the market for an overflow.

Steve, if you have a buyer, go for it. But I'll be in touch to see if it's still available should my repair not work.

An overnight water test revealed a very slow leak somewhere else in the overflow. I don't think I'm going to mess around with this one anymore. Too bad.
