My Zoa is starting to not do so good.

My water quality is good. My other corals are fine. Temp and salinty are good. So I'm guessing it has to be the lighting. Heres where it is in the aquarium. In the picture I'm pointing to green star polyps but thats where the zoas are at now. The lights are Kessil A150W's. About 10 inches above the water.

im going thru the same! mine werent opeing for a few days and just saw less and less. i gave it and ro wtaer bath and seem to be coming back. havent noticed any more losses! but yea on the same boat lol

Okay, let's start from the basics, you should list your parameters anyways.

How did yo acclimate to lights? Did you search for pests? The best thing would be a Lugols dip. How is the flow?

Thanks for your help. Water parameters were right on. I just did them yesterday. I dont remember exactly what they were.

I started them from the bottom in the shade and then moved them up once about a quarter of the way up and then another quarter. So they sit about half way up.

I have not searched for pests. The flow would be moderate i would say.

I moved them into the shade of a rock and they seem to be opening up a little but more. Even the few that still are in the light a little have opened up. I'm thinking its one of two things. They are either to close to the light or they are exposed to the light for two long. My lights are on for about 12 hours each day.

The amount of light I wouldn't think is the culprit as much as the intensity. Zos take time to acclimate. Don't think of it as a matter of days, more like weeks.

Zoas seem to love Lugols dip. Not to mention Lugols will help show some pests, zoas have many many pests to look for.

I have the same zoas as you and I keep my on the sandbed. They do seem to love light. But not like sps corals love light. How long have you had your zoas? And how fast where yo losing polyps.

P.s. don't get discouraged. I've melted my zoas nice to just one single polyp and within a few months had a frag of about twenty.

Take it out and submerge it in a cup of R/o water! For 5 seconds mayb move it around a little, of it has any bugs they will die off, done it to mine, I'm on day 5 and there opening up everyday

I have some huge amphipods that ive noticed on mine recenty and im thinking i might pick up a wrasse to knock the pod numbers down a bit. Just in case they might be snacking on them.

I did a peroxide dip on mine that were looking bad and a couple days later back to gorgeous. Just google Zoa peroxide dip.
