Help me choose a wrasse

Deciding between a melanarus and a Vrolik's wrasse. I know they are basically the same. Any reason you'd choose one over the other? Tank is 42 gallons.

I've kept mel. wrasses before. Never actually seen a Vrolik's before.

Help me choose!
 
Looks basically like the same wrasse. I've heard Melanarus wrassse eat parasites off coral and glass. I'd go with that one.
 
Vroliks for me. Less common and I really think it's much prettier.

I have to admit, I really like my melanarus. He doesn't bother anyone, and is probably the fastest growing fish I have ever had. For some reason he went from about 2 inches to about 4.5 inches in ~4 months. He is usually out, loves to travel around, but for some reason trying to get this picture of him was a pain in the wrasse.
 
Neither :)
Pseudocheilinops ataenia any day.

If I had to pick one of the two you stated it would have to be Halichoeres melanurus.
 
I'm not used to Wrasses habits, but I freaked out when mine simply disapeared for about a week... Then I discovered they bury themselves in the sand...

Does anyone has more info about that??

Fish hide in a variety of different places, some choose underneath the sand. They only go under when they're stressed, or if it's time to sleep.

I'd suggest making a new thread with questions if you have more, no need to hijack Brett's.

Funny you say that, the second I added the new Vrolik's wrasse to the tank (I don't QT), he shot like a missile for the sand. Like he was gone in a fraction of a second. That was yesterday morning. No sign of him yet.

And now this morning my little yellow coris wrasse (that I've had for a few months now) is also hiding out. Maybe they're holed up together....

Anyway, hope I see each of them soon.
 
I will. I knew it was a risk. This yellow coris is tiny and has gotten on with some pretty mean tankmates, so we'll see. L.A. and others say that multiple Halichoerus can get along, and that the yellow coris is usually pretty easygoing.
 
Yellow just came out. Nice.

No sign of the Vrolik's. My co-worker (tank is at my office) thought I said Rolex Wrasse. Now THAT is a cool name for a fish.
