Which tank and which fixture?

I like the T5's, but prefer halides to get the shimmer. You don't really get much (if any) shimmer with T5's becuase the lighitng is so even.

The ones I have seen I liked. They are nice hoods and unlike Tek, they have fans. That makes a big difference for T5 bulbs - both in lifespan and PAR.

The only drawback would be Currents T5 bulbs. Their stock bulbs are just not as good as many others including ATI. Not very reliable either. One guy in the Vendor experience forum reported that 9 of his Current T5 bulbs had gone out in about 1 months time.

its for my 125, so it would be 12x39 HO t-5. i dont care about shimmer, i would like to have the ability to keep what i want of course this is a reef tank.

If you don't care about the shimmer, T5's are the way to go IMO. They give a better light spread (more even) and can grow just about anything. The only drawback is that you have to replace 12 bulbs about once a year (figure $250). Then again halides would probably run you that much (+/-) depending on the flavor you go with.

hey rich thanks for your input. im close to pulling the trigger on that light. i was just waiting to see if anyone said..NO its terrible, cheap Chinese crap. lol it seems like a great deal.

I believe the Extreme Pro is considered much better than the Extreme because it has individual reflectors for each T5 bulb.
