Help me choose - onyx or picasso

Hi,

I just upgraded to a 156 gallon Oceanic from a 58g and a 20L. I had two rod's onyx (both are a little under 1") in the 20L and a Picasso percula (2") in the 58. When I moved to the 156, I transferred all three. The picasso was hosting a frogspawn on one end of the tank and the onyx clowns immediately hosted my RBTA. It's been a week and the picasso found the RBTA. Now all three are hosting it. I'd like to keep two and was thinking of keeping 1 of each but can't come to a decision. The picasso looks really good but the smaller onyx have great personality.

I'll post pictures of them tonight or tomorrow. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

I also have Onyx aznd Picasso's in the same reef. If I had to choose, I'd definitely keep the Onyx! :)

I like the Picassos, but the Onyx have so much character. Are your Onyx WC?

I would definatly keep one each.

Think about it... the onyx are brother and sister & I think 3 or 4th generation inbred. This is already apparent by the stubby body size and boxy head shape they have. Dont breed brother and sister together! spead the gene's around!

disclaimer- I'm in no way bashing rod's onyx!!!! I have one I am trying to pair with a WC clown. I think rods are awsome fish I just prefer not to have a brother and sister "boinking" in my tank.

Also...what if your sucessful in raising fry? onyx picasso's with black dorsals!!!!! now thats a clown fanatic's dream come true!

If you chose not to keep the picasso I'll take it & make black dorsal onyx picasso babies!

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to keep one of each in the big tank and keep the 20L running for the other onyx. I'm going to have to find him a tank mate and hopefully my bta splits.

ill take your mutated, brother /sister stubby headed clowns.

unless you acquire the two clowns from two diff sources at diff times, most likely they are brother/sisters. yes, even wc clowns sold as a pair have high probability of being sis/bro combo. even in the wild , when there born they most likey do not swim far away to find a mate from a diff area of the reef.

what is the maximum size of the onyx clowns? and rod's onyx, how big do they get? while i'm at it, what is the maximun sixe of the picasso clowns? thanks...

Remember though... if your going to take one onyx out and you've had them together for a while now one might be female. It certianly looks like your Picasso is larger so keep the smaller onyx with the picasso.

I have a pretty good idea on which I'm going to take out but I'll wait and see which gets kicked out of the bta. Right now all three are sharing the bta without any fighting.

ReeferMO85, they are A. percula clowns so the size will be of that species.

The onyx clowns were from rods-reef.com. I got the picasso from a LFS. Not sure where you can get picassos online.

Awesome fish all around. Why remove any of them from the tank though? Leave them all together and you'll end up with a coll little tri. One female, one male and a juvie. I have a family right now living in a BTA that consists of a female Ocellaris, male Perc, black ocellaris dominant juvie, one small yellow juvie ocellaris and one small orange juvie ocellairs. It would be neat to have a family going in your tank. Good luck.

I hope they get along. I've read that as soon as two of them pair up, they usually end up kicking the 3rd one out. I guess I can keep them together and then I can remove one if that happens. I've always had clownfishes and these three are my favorite so far.

Thanks
