Hello all,

I am planning a 210g reef with LED lighting (AI) -
My wife and I a ready to start the building of the stand and run all the
Drain and supply lines to the basement. I want to get everyones feedback on
the location of the tank-

My wife is wanting to place the tank 72x24x30 right infront of a window so you can see the tank when we are outside on the deck - for Ref the couch in the pict is about 6.5 feet

here is a pict

We spend a good deal of time outside with friends and family and a lot of time in this

Here is another view outside

the tank would Cover the return vents for the AC - so i am thinking of using the return holes to run my drain and supply lines to the basement and then get some flex to run the new ac lines to vent out the sides of the stand. no need to get into stand unless something bad happens. plenty of room since the sump is in basement- will post picts later -

and another one from inside- as you can see it would be a perfect place for the tank - we would see the tank from the kitchen and living room (where we are with the kids all the time)

We do get some sun in the AM through the window (house faces west) however it isn't very long due to tall trees in our backyard -

the height of the couch is around 33 inches high -

I am going to build a custom stand and canopy due to the fact that i want it finished on all sides since you will be able to see it outside - I will add some vents in the canopy on the sides or top for the LED's

so do you guys think that i will run into issue with algae due to being near the window?

i am going corner overflows so they wont block the view from the back.
I would love to go with a tower aquascape - I know that cleaning the back won't be easy but i should be able to reach behind the tank to clean the glass

I will post some pict of a ALT location next as well as some shots of the basement setup -

Thanks everyone -

let me know what you think !!!

let the build begin!!!

As I promised here are a couple shots of the basement setup -
i have about 2000 sqft basement unfinished... and I don't plan on finishing it out any time in the near future (or ever) we will be here for the next 4-5 years.

here is a shot of a sink - not done hooking up the hot water line yet - as you can see i have a RO unit right above the sink- not done with mounting the sink yet - going to add more bracing - if you look closely, I added a separate Sump and discharge pump that only for the Reef tank and any water from the sink flows to. when the water level rises it flips a switch to turn on the pump and send it up to the septic system. the two pipes running up are the Vent and Wast lines-

Here is a messy shot of QT and Hospital tank - is a 70g marineland with the hood that has 4 bio wheels - it is not up any running right now -

below that is a 10g hospital tank for little guys - I have a RG and Clown in there now that came down with ick - Treated and they seem to be doing well
they are week three of eight for the fallout to occur in the biocube 14 upstairs. I will prob move the 10g to a shelf so i don't have to bend over to change water and feed -

Here is a Pict of the Sump area - Going to build a stand for sump and all the goodies that go with it. I already have a Reeflo Hammerhead Gold to run the system (picked it up at MACNA) - I will have about 14ft head is what i am guessing - might have to build a shelf for the pump as well -

another question i have is should i hook the Sump directly to the drain pipe you can see it under the sump- should i be worried about bacteria (again this system is only being used for WC and cleaning in the sink then it pump up to the main line of the house (there is a oneway valve at the sump pump)

another question i have is should i be worried about moisture in the basement - or do i need to run a vent or dehumidifier - the basement is not connected the AC system- although a have a couple units that sit in the basement - they do not pull any air from the basement either-

Thanks everyone for taking a look - I am pumped about getting this tank off the ground ... but i want to do it right !

I will send pict of an alt location of the tank next - (although I will have to re-work some plumbing)

Algae is more a nutrient issue than light. You might have heat issues with the sun shining on the tank, depending on the type of glass in the windows

my 75 used to get hit with the sun depending on the time of the year - I used to open the windows for it because it was great for growth and polyp extension. I agree that heat is probably the biggest issue as well.

I think the placement sounds awesome considering you will be able to walk around all 4 sides of the tank. Most of us only have the option of viewing our tank from one panel so there is a lot your going to be able to do with the aquascaping. Sounds awesome man!

Thanks guys i will post some Picts updating the progress ... Not worried about heat considering I am using LEDs. The windows are double low e glass

Hey Guys - I am moving right along on the stand - Since the Tank is on order 220g 72X24X30- I need to see if you guys can help me with a measurement - I am going to build a small ledge around the tank - what is the height of the black frame that goes around the bottom tank. I want to make sure that this is not seen and covered by the stand -
the tanks is a Marineland 220g corner-flo

Thanks everyone - I think that it is 1 inch but i am not sure -
