Help me decide on a heater

40b, 15gal sump, ect ect. I had a stealth 200 that basically is retiring. It was holding my tank around 78, then it dropped to 73. This was right around the time it started to get really cold out . So i picked up a 150w jager, as recommended by ARC, its rated for 40-60 gals, and i set it up on my rkl, and the temp only got to 75, basically its too small. So i run both heaters now just to keep it at 78.5.

I want to run one heater, so what do I do, get the jager 200w or 250w, now they are the same price but the 250 is larger, 17.75 inches, and im not sure it will fit in my sump with out removing a baffle (going from 3 to 2 baffles). The 200 is rated 60-90gal, and the 250 is 100-160 gal.

Which one would you guys do, I am more worried about space, but if needed i can pull a baffle cause im not sure i really have a bubble problem anyways

TIA

I'd keep the 150w jager and add a second 150w jager. I know you said you want one heater, but two keeps you a little more protected from failure (if only one gets stuck on it won't be powerful enough to boil your tank, or if only one fails off you won't have ice water).

This would be the best bet, but unfortunately my RLK is out of outlets, and i run my heater on the controller, the other one is on a extension cord from another outlet 10 feet away (too much cluttter imo). Plus my friend has already offered to purchase the 150 from me, so not big loss there.

jager are nice. i'd be fine with the 200. i'm not sure what there warranty is. with the marineland visotherms, they mail you new ones, no questions asked. i don't like mucking about with old heaters. after a year, i replace them/repurpose them. it's not that big a deal if they crap out. exploding/leaking is another story. for $30 i keep a few around.

Home Depot, Lowes, your local hardware store, etc. It does not need to be specific to your controller.

Get a high quality splitter designed for outdoor use and you're all set.

Of course, double check to be sure you're not exceeding the power limit on the RKL's power strip or the rating on the splitter you use.

That splitter looks like it will work great. I wish I had seen one of those when I set all my stuff up. I also use that method to control my koralias,my reverse lighting for moon and sump lights, and my cooling fans; one fan blows across the top of the tank and one to keep air moving across the sump when the tank gets warm.

Thats next, a fan to cool, im not ready to do a chiller quite yet. I need to find a job, move and buy a house, then build a 120 with basement sump, then the fun begins.

But i have gotten too far ahead of myself.

Ditto the two heaters. Never rely on one even with a controller. I use a simple splitter that plugs into the outlet and has 3 plugs for heaters, two on each side and one one the end.

Watch the orientation of the outlets relative to the blades of the plug on the splitter. Lowes and home depots basic splitters are 90 degrees apart. One will put the extra outlets to the side where there is room, the other will put the outlets over the other plugs on your power strips

I was looking for this spliter at both depot and lowes but no dice, the ones I found would of interfered with the other outlets, so I purchased that cord extender I linked.

So my new heater is in the mail, can't wait to toss my stealth in the trash
