Thinking od Nikon D50 or D70s....but very confused......

Also I saw on Ebay that a kit is available to take stock lenses.....and mount them backward to yuse as a MACRO lens.....without the expense of a macro lens itself....anybody know about this?

Any help would be appreciated...I think Costco has D70s kits for $799

I just got a D50 kit at Costco. I haven't seen the d70 there.

So far, I think it's a great camera.

Sh!t! I got mine for $1400

owned.

:D

I bought it at Ritz camera a year ago. I actually just finished paying the monthly plan. Hahhaha. And at the time, I knew I could get it for 1200 at BH and Adorama but didnt want to deal with the shipping and waiting. Also, I got the one year warrantly plan with that price at Ritz.
It seems that Nikon has drop the price of the D70s significantly over the last year because of the new D200.

It depends on how far you think you might want to go, the D50 has some annoying quirks that the D70/D70s just don't have, but it's significantly cheaper.

I would be skeptical that it would provide the same quality, flexibility, and ease of use of a true 1:1 macro lens (I love my EF 100mm macro). Still, compared to a $400 macro lens.....might be worth playing around with.

If you've already decided on Nikon vs. Canon, you've made the hard decision. Lenses can be re-used if you swap bodies down the road (just stick with the same mfr). I chose Canon because they dominate the market for digital SLRs currently. I then chose the XT over the 20D and 30D because they all use the same sensor so the pictures they can take are virtually identical. Don't know if the Nikons are the same. I then put the money I saved towards better lenses.

Camera bodies are like computers, obsolete and replaced with much better in a year or two. It isn't like the film days.

What you want to decide is what lens system you want. If you have decided Nikon, I *personally* would go with the D70s, but that is just me. I have heard wonderful things about how nice the high ISO is on the D 50. I don't shoot high ISO's that often, so, it isn't a feature I would base my decision on.

If the D50 means you can get a better lens, go with the D50. Your lens will make more difference in your photos than the body

REALLY? WHY EXACTLY....Just QUICKLY IN NEWBEE TERMS

Fine tuning of white balance, dual control knobs (1 for shutter speed, 1 for aperture), Cf card for storage, commander mode remote flash control, control panel light, DOF preview ... I could go on.

I realize those may not exactly be 'newbie' terms, and each one taken alone might not be a big deal, but together, newbie or not IMHO they're worth the 200-$300 difference.
