Help me decide . . .

My lease on my apartment expires at the end of June and so I will be moving out.

I currently have a 72g and a 58g setup in the apartment (both reefs)

I've been tossing around the idea of buying a new, larger tank and combing the contents of the two I currently have. The idea is basically to get a new 120g RR Oceanic tank or equivalent, set it up in the new place of residence and then sell the other tanks I have once everything has been transferred.

As far as cost, I wouldn't be taking more than $300 or so out of pocket- and that would be the initial cost of the tank and stand.
I would be reusing the rock, sand, Stream pumps, CL, MH's, sumps could be plumbed together, protein skimmer is sufficient, calcium reactor is more than adequate . . .

is there any reason NOT to do this?

Also, how much do you think I could sell a used 72g RR Oceanic tank and stand(Metals Collection) great condition not a scratch on the glass

I would up grade If I were you, I mean, If you can afford it and the inhabitants of the two tanks will work together in a larger tank, then I say go for it... but I have no idea on selling the current tank you have right now... So can't help you in that department... I want to upgrade my 55 gallon to something around a 240 or so, Can't wait to do that...

wow, a 55 to a 200+ . . . good luck with that!

Im just trying to decide if it makes more sense to just have one large tank or two smaller tanks . . . more potential for disaster it seems

A single tank seems to make sense and be more reasonable.

Does your apartment have any limit on aquariums? I know some don't allow over a certain amount of gallons, I believe.

my current apartment does not have any problems with aquariums . . . however since I will be moving and don't yet know where I will be in two months I have no way of knowing if it will be allowed.

If I do decide to combine the two, I will just look for a place that is ok with 120g of water sitting in the apartment:D

Actually it depends,

If you had the two tanks you could setup say an SPS tank and some softies or LPS in the other, or different options anyway.

Nothing wrong with one big tank either. More than likely though you will have the 120 and the 58 and the 72 if you don't sell it in no time at all. :D

first floor is a must, no matter what- ive flooded my apartment twice this past year and lucked out that I was on the ground floor!

Also, no way will I have the 120, 72 AND 58 . . . no $$$
Whatever I can get for the two RR tanks will offset the majority of the 120's cost. Or so I'm hoping . . .
