Help me design my 300+ AGE tank

I am in the process of finally getting my new aquarium started. This will be an inwall tank 90"x33"x30". The tank will be a room divider. I was curious if anybody had any ideas of something cool to do with this tank? I've been thinking about doing an external overflow on the left side of the aquarium and an external refugium on the right side. The whole idea with the refugium on the side of the aquarium is to allow bugs to enter the tank without the use of a pump.

Any ideas or comments?

Do you plan on getting a hybrid or just a standard tank? Also, closed-loop, eurobracing, etc? An external overflow would definitely be a good idea.

Since this is an A.G.E. build though, the possibilities are endless :-)

Yeah, pvc bottom to allow for a closed loop system. I'm going to talk to Tom at AGE on Monday about some different options for the bracing for easier access.

I guess my main thing I'm curious to hear about is if anybody has ever done a refugium on the side of the tank. It would be similar to the external overflow box. Any thoughts on this?

Hmmm. I've never heard of someone doing a fuge as like a separate compartment on the tank but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You may have to raise it a tad bit above the level in the tank but it would be a way to keep the tank stocked with lots of pods :-)

sounds like a CPR aquafuge....and yes many people use them...small pump in the tank pumps water into it and then it overflows back into the display...is there a reason you couldnt put a 30 gal above the tank somewhere and simply pump water into it and have it drain back into the display...if this is a room divider i would think it is a peninsular style allowing viewing from three sides, i am not sure how you would incorporate a fuge on the side if the overflow is already using the one end of the tank...if a bug friendly fuge is in your plans i would somehow make it larger and remote above the tank...what are your plans for an equipment room? basement? behind the wall?

the tank will be viewed on 2 sides. i guess it's not a room divider. it will be seen in the living room and the other side will be the fish room/office.

i dont want to have an extra pump to fill up the fuge. i thought it would be interesting to just have teeth on one side of the tank allowing for free flow of water into the attached fuge. i thought about putting one of the returns for the closed loop into it.

let's see if i can attach a cheap paint picture i drew :)

I would make the fuge separate. If I were to build a tank that size I would want the tank build to be as simple as possible.

IMO external overflow is a must have.

i guess i could just drill two holes in the side of the tank and connect a seperate tank to it. i could always use the holes for the closed loop system.

Check my build thread or search for pwhitby's build thread - two different types of AGE tanks... Paul's is later technology hybrid - acrylic with starphire front...
