I bought this tank from a fellow reefer that was wanting out of the hobby. I was told that there was a giant starfish in my tank somewhere during breakdown.........I didn't see it and I know most stars are nocturnal and elusive. This (thing) is about the width of an arm on a chocolate chip star......Is orange/brown in color with white spiny projections. I know my photo is crap......but it is the best I can do with the dang thing never coming out. I didn't know if this was the elusive starfish that I was told about......or something else entirely like (sea cucumber?) I appreciate all your help and friendly advice.....you'all have done so much to make me feel very welcome and thank you so much in advance

Just to be clear the item in question is in the middle of the photo slightly off to the left upper corner about 9:00-9:30......

Thanks
Jennifier

Can't tell from the photo, but it looks like a tigertail cucumber (Holothuria hilla). Can you take the rock out to check?

I have had this tank completely broke down over a week ago when I bought it and all the liverock in a tote with just some of the live sand and water in the bottom of the tank for transport. I never saw this creature on any of the rocks.....and I was told that there was a giant starfish somewhere in the tank probably buried in the sand...........with that being said....I have found a brittle star fish AND this thing......I didn't know if it was just a leg.....or the whole creature, but THAT Tigertail Cucumber is EXACTLY what it looks like...but everytime I do anything to a rock I won't see the thing for a day. I will just keep my eyes on it and see if I can ever view anymore than the part that has ever been visible
