Help me!!!!! I'm moving my tank.

Hi. I will soon be doing the rigorous task of moving my 90g to make room for a 120g that will take its place.

I will be going with a completely new system so I may have my fish and corals etc.. submerged while my new system cycles.

Question. I am thinking of possibly connecting both systems by way of pvc and powerheads so that I could have almost the same water perimeters. (I am hoping that way the new system will not have an amonia spike when I switch over the live rock and stock)

Do you guys think this will work or is there an easier way?

The tanks will be about 10ft from one another on both sides of a l shaped wall.

Has anyone else done something like this? Or if you have any other ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Well "If" you did it this is how I would do it, I would only have 1 sump and have a pump or two pumping the water up to the two tanks, and hook up both of the over flows, to one sump. If you start pumping water from one tank to the other you will have major problems, such as overflowing and such.

BAD IDEA big guy

Well Felix, how do you think it should be done? Do u think it would really matter if I just transferred everything once it has cycled?

i was going to do this until my brother got rid of his tank, but like was mentioned earlier, i would have the overflows from both tanks going to a single sump. That way if one of the pumps fails, it doesn't really matter. the other tank will be fine and won't overflow. If you try to pump from one tank to the other and back, you will run into all kinds of problems with the flow not being exactly the same, then if a pump goes out, you are really in trouble. SOOOO if you do do this, use one sump and have the overflows go to the one sump, and two pumps pumping into their own tank.

I would come on over and help you move it, but I am too drunk and you're like 12 hours away :(

LMAO

What if I save the water I remove when I do my water changes and just add some fresh water along with the old. That way the perimeters should be just about the same and all I would have to worry about is acclimating the corals.?
