Well I don't even own a tank but my dad does and I was thinking of buying him an anemone. It's 136 gal tank current inhabitants are:

1 yellow tang
1 powder blue tang
2 clowns
1 cleaner wrasse
1 chevron tang
1 coral beuty
1 sand sifting goby
1 mandarin

Ideas people!

Best consult with him before buying him an anemone! Surprises are nice, but these animals are hard to care for, and can cause issues with other inhabitants. And, properly cared for, can live a very long time.

Obviously I'l consult with him first we had the misfortune of someone buying a sweetlips for him which in my opinion have no place in the hobby, it's destructive, a bully and loves to chase new aditions to the tank.

He's on his way to the local sea life centre soon.

I love my tube anemone because I don't have to worry about it moving around. And there's nothing more beautiful.

Anemones can be challenging, can sting/kill corals, and can be seriously harmed by overflows, powerheads, pump intakes, etc. That said, if you have the lighting and inclination to keep one, Entacmaea quadricolor (bubble tip anemones) have the best record in captivity of the clown anemones.

This is a good place to start your research:

is it a fish only tank? id check the water to see how clean it is b4 id add an anemone..........................i lost an rbta and my others always moved around, turned out my water orp was 220.............since adding ozone i havent had an anemone move once..........................fish wont tell you this

my opinion is, don't buy any "surprise" gifts for anyone in this hobby, unless you know it's something they have been waiting to get such as a better skimmer and you know exactly what it is (make, model, etc.). a gift cert would be better appreciated...
