Hey guys I am currently setting up a 60 gallon cube and I need help picking out fish. I am still very new to the saltwater side of this Hobby so I am open to any ideas.

I know for sure I will have a pair of clowns that I already have in my current tank.

Thanks!

Please ignore the troll.

What kind of fish are you interested in? There are lots of smaller fish that would do well in your tank. Cardinals, flasher wrasses (I would stay away from sixlines, mystery wrasses, or anything else in that family because they get kind of aggressive), chalk bass, gobies, blennies. What kind of corals are you thinking about keeping? Dwarf angels are very pretty, but you might not be able to keep them with brain corals or other large fleshy LPS.

I love tobies and hawkfish, but they're a problem with invertebrates like shrimp, snails and hermits.

It just depends on the kind of tank you're trying to create and what choices you're willing to make.

Because I am still really new to the reef side of the hobby I dont know what corals I like and dont like so I am wanting to have a mixed reef with some sps but I want to have moslty lps and zoas those are my favorites so far.

I prefer to have more small fish than a couple large fish. I would really like to stay away from any agressive fish and I would like to stick to fish that will not eat any corals.

What I am really wanting to know is what fish do well in that size tank so I can start researching. I tried talking to my local fish store but they arent very helpful. The very first thing they suggested was a yellow tang (they just want to make money).

One fish I would really like to keep is a green mandarin. I know they are pretty difficult to keep alive but I am looking for one that will eat frozen foods. I have a couple friends in the hobby who are helping me look for one.

Some other fish I have seen that I think are pretty cool is a firefish and the gobies I have seen I really liked

Since you dont know what coral you will want, I would stay away from any fish that is not reef safe. A pair of clowns is a great starter for that tank.

I also have been looking at a lawnmower blenny There is one at my lfs store that looked really cool but didnt seem to have much personality. Is that a sign that its unhealthy?

It just stayed hidden in one spot.

Go for a goby and shrimp pair. Something like a yasha and candy cane pistol would be nice. It would provide something a bit different than the average fish.

I would also consider a blenny of some nature. Bicolor blenny or midas blenny are excellent choices.

No to any angel...

Check some youtube videos on the fish in question.

They perch a lot but seem to move around a decent amount to. They are not burrowers or anything like the yasha. They always seem to be on the lookout. Pretty cool and entertaining after watching things like chromis swim around almost aimlessly.

Firefish are really cool, and if I was you I would try to find a M/F pair of red or purple firefish assuming your tank is covered (these guys are excellent jumpers!). Gobies are great fun to, but I would probably only add one to your system and would avoid the ones that sand sift for all of their food. My favorite gobies so far are the yellow watchman goby, the orange spotted goby, the pink spotted watchman goby, and the hi-fin red banded goby.

Not at all. I have one of these and am looking forward to the day I don't anymore, boring fish, not that interesting to look at, does not interact with me, and only eats the food I put in the tank, not the algae he is supposed to. Worthless fish IMO. I would try a different type of blenny, my current favorite is the starry blenny I have but I am dying to try a midas blenny or a bi-color blenny. My starrry blenny has sampled my arm many times though :)

Wow thanks for the great advice! I do like the yellow watchman goby so I think I will add that to my list. I hadn't even considered a male female pair of fire fish but that would be cool I will have a screen top lol.

I think I will mark the lawn mower Benny off of my list I don't want any boring fish.

My favorite fish are ones that have personality. The pair of clowns I have always come up to the glass when I walk in the door and I love that. When I kept freshwater tanks I had an angelfish that would follow me from side to side when I was looking at the tank. (I was sad to see him go)

I will be watching plenty of YouTube while my tank cycles:rollface:

I was hoping to keep some inverts. I already have 5 peppermint shrimp but I could trade those if I wanted to. I got them to take care of an aptaisia problem with my old tank and they worked well for that. I dont really like them now since anytime I stick my hand in the tank they all latch on to me . I feed them plenty so Im not sure what that is all aboout but its annoying.

What about:
Coral Beauty Angel
Royal Gramma
Benggai Cardinal
Chromis
Flame Hawkfish

Do you plan on keeping inverts?

I like royal grammas and benggai cardinals.

Im not much of a fan of chromis

I would like to see a flame hawkfish in person it looks pretty cool
