Help me pick fish for 60 cube reef

Yeah I don't think a tank would do well in my tank. Their is a yellow tang in a 60 cube at my local fish store and it looks very unhealthy. I do think I will get a royal gramma tho

I was hoping to keep some inverts. I already have 5 peppermint shrimp but I could trade those if I wanted to. I got them to take care of an aptaisia problem with my old tank and they worked well for that. I dont really like them now since anytime I stick my hand in the tank they all latch on to me . I feed them plenty so Im not sure what that is all aboout but its annoying.

When they are latching on they think your hand is a big fish. They are simply trying to clean your hand of any dead skin and other things. This is what they do in the wild. Mine does it and I think it is very cool.

I have always been a big fan of having wrasses. They are entertaining to watch. Never had any issues with six-lines but they do get a semi-bad rep.

well maybe I havent given them enough chance to do anything I always knock them off lol. Ill leave them on next tiem and see how it goes

A couple of things:

First, you need to wait six months (actually a year would be better) before trying a mandarin. Even if you get one that eats prepared foods, mandarins need a mature tank with no competition for fish that also eat pods (like sixlines). Mandarins just eat all day long. If you have a refugium that will help, but it needs time to build up a diverse and sustainable population of pods.

Second, you should probably avoid a sixline in a 2-foot wide tank. They get territorial and sometimes downright aggressive in close quarters.

I have a six line and he has good and bad sides. He is a really cool fish. If you want to add one do it last. I didn't do this and I was able to add the dragonet and a bangaii after him but now I can't add anything else. He even killed a dottyback which they themselves can be aggressive. He has left my inverts alone and is one of the nicest fish in my tank until another one comes in and he shows his dark side. If you don't add him last from what I have observed there is a period where you can add other fish but once that expires no more fish can be added without removing him. Also keep in mind that six lines although they easily accept prepared foods, they are just as much the pod eater as dragonets. Having these two animals together is like terminator to copepods, your copepod population will be annialated. I have them together in a smaller tank however I spend the time every morning and night feeding my mandarin mysis piece by piece until he is full. He is not reliant on pods at all for a food source. It takes me a good 20 minutes twice a day feeding one fish. It sounds crazy but hey, he is a very cool fish. This is just how I make it work.

If you do go with the six line, do what that guy said. I was thinking of adding one to my 40gb, but decided not to due to have aggressive it can be. So defiantly add it last.

I plan on waiting at least a year before I get a mandarin. I want to stock this tank slow because my last tank that I bought fish for I rushed into getting fish and I was stuck with fish that I really didnt like all that much and they lived and lived and lived.... Ihad freshwater tanks for almost 6 years and had the same fish almost the whole time lol

For now I think ill probably just avoid the sixline. I may change my mind later on though :lol2:

I was looking back through the post and noticed you asked about blenny personality. Let me tell ya, they have a lot! Mine was timid when I first got it and he hid in holes in the rock. But now he is out all the time picking at the rocks. He does have this one area of my tank that he hangs out at most of the time, so he isn't all over the tank. Sorry, i never even said which blenny I have :lol2: I have a tail spot. :)
