Help me pick some corals! (pics)

Devil's hand seem to fair poorly, at least they did when we brought them in where I used to work. A nice fiji yellow leather would be awesome, but they tend to like halides. But if you put them up near the top they would probably do fine. Nothing offsets a tank like a big leather swaying with the current.

drummer, I can probably hook you up with some corals if you're looking. Are you going to the meeting on the 9th? If so, you can probably pick up a frag or two there too. I've got zoas, softies, and LPS that would be fine for you. I did the monti cap under PC's thing before and got only incredibly slow growth, and the thing never looked quite right, so I sold it to a better home. My monti I have under halides is exploding in growth. Let me know if you're interested and I can PM you some pics if you like.

I second some of the LPS and leathers.. and also a little zoo forest somewhere in there would be awesome.

Maybe a gorgonian sticking off of one of the rocks, too.. even with PC lighting you have a LOT to play with- just stay away from the hardcore light SPS guys .. it leaves a LOT to play with :)

If you do like shrooms get some ricordias they remind me of dippin dots :)

leathers, zoo's, ric's, even a fox coral would look nice, although I would stay away from the bright yellow tonga leather (S. elegans), as they need very high lighting

Where did you come up with this?

I have one that I have propagated literally dozens of clones off of and it lives under a whopping 72W of PC in a 24G tank

PM sent :)

yellow leathers (especially s. elegans) will do better with higher lighting (t5 or MH). Not to say it can't be done, but higher light for s. elegans is the way to go.

Can anyone else confirm that an Orange Monti cap would live under 192 watt PCs? I never even considered one before now. I've got 192 watt PCs on a 65 but could place a cap in the top half.

What are the chances it would work?

Here ya go....orange monti cap in a 10g under 90w PC's. Only about 4 inches under the waterline. This is over a year's worth of growth, was extremely slow growing this way, but it did, indeed, survive. Just didn't really thrive this way. My same size frag that was put in my tank with halides was 5 times the size of this one in the same timeframe.

(10g wasn't much to look at here as it was kind of a parking lot for my frags :D )

Exactly, that's all mine was.....just "ok".

Heck, give it a whirl, if it's not doing well, trade someone for a different coral or sell it.

Doesn't it? I need to rig up a closed loop one of these days. My 120 takes up all my time. Hell, until last night you couldn't even see into my 10g because of all the coralline on the front glass. Poor little chromis in there peeping out through the few little spots that weren't covered...."Hello, anyone still out there?" It's all scraped now.
