Hi guys
I am planning a large reef tank
Somewhere between 200 - 300 gallons
It will go in the basement and will be in a location that is amenable to an in-wall aquarium although I haven't decided on this yet
I want glass
I would like to upgrade with a clear plan for lighting - to help with the final decision about the dimensions of the tank. Currently I am thinking about 60-72" L, 24-36" W and about 24" D
I am thinking about T5s only, or T5s with MH with the lumenbright reflectors - I am leaning towards T5 mainly because of the flexibility of "tuning" the color choice by switching lights as opposed to being tied in to a particular bulb with the MHs
Q1: I am assuming that an appropriately sized T5 HO fixture would have comparable PAR to a 250 Watt MH in a LB reflecoter. Please correct me if I am wrong
Q2 I am thinking about the Sfiligoi stealth T5 fixture, the ATI powermodule, or an Icecap SLR retrofit. The stealth has a 12 x 80 watt fixture. How large a tank could be covered by this one fixture? How does it compare to the ATI unit? I guess the Ice Cap retrofit might have the most flexibility but I am not so keen on doing a DIY canopy etc
I don't want to make this a T5 vs MH type thread - but I would like to see if there is a sweet spot in terms of tank dimensions (length and width) to help determine appropriate sizing of the tank
Thanks in advance for any thoughts
Will
