Help me spend my money.

Help me decide my new tank size. I'm going to try to buy a new tank tomorrow.

Ok, that big long chain of tanks I had all planned out…. I’ve decided to simplify things a little bit. Now I have to decide on which new tank to buy. I was originally thinking of going with a bow front, but I had wondered how photos would come out with it and after discussing it in the meeting I have decided against that idea. Now the decision comes down to either a 75g or a 90g. Both have the same base detentions, 48X18”, would fit on my stand, and either one would be a megaflow AGA. Moving up to the 90 may not be possible with out a new plan for my stand, but that I may do.

So what do you think? The animals I will be placing in it will definitely benefit from the larger size, snow flake moray, and a currently young French Angle.

I may decide to stand the 2X4s up on end and tie them together with another 2X4 on each end if I move up to the 90.(havn't yet drawn this out)

Check with greg (fishn1 I think) just had the garage sale this weekend. he has a 75 set-up w/ stand and canopy that I know he was hoping to unload so he didn't have to move down south.

Thanks cdangel0(what was your name again?) I PMed him. Found out that I couldn't get the deal I was going to get at TPP, so I am looking for a better deal now. I've got to get something that is drilled though and preferably something with an overflow.

I might check the retail stores.

Jon

Hey Jon, sent you a PM, my tank is reef ready, Oak Stand, Hood, T5 light set. Complete Oceanic. Can help deliver!
Greg

Lol yeah. Incase I hadn't said it before welcome to the club Craig. I had been planning on making a post in the photography forum asking about that because I was curious. I kept putting it off and when you said something it was final. I take LOTS of photos. Hopefully soon I will be able to show everyone my photos on my website. Just have been too busy with the tank planning.

Jon

PS. Just curious where do you play hockey.

Just my 2c, but I like the dims of a 75g better for a reef. The 90 is too tall compared to its depth IMO and everything looks kind of 2-D.

Jon -

No problem, Craig is one of those names that everyone forgets - not too common. Just watch, even people that know my name will screw it up eventually - I'll be "Chris" by the july meeting.

I play hockey at UD, play in the men's (read "beer") league.

Did you get a chance to talk to Greg about his 75?

I could see that. If you could see what I have planned though the 90 would look even better if the light faded at the bottom. I have a cool cave rock that I got about 2 years ago that has just been sitting around. With a dark cave at the bottom with an eel in it and then my French angle swimming back and forth at the top begging for food it has different layers to it.

Once I started picturing what the 90g would look like there it's been hard to even consider a 75, but I may have to go that route due to budget problems. We will see what kind of deal I can find. I've been looking in here, ebay, and aquabid.

Jon

In the long term, you will probably be happier with the 75. The main problem with my 110 (an extra tall 75) is that it's too deep and becomes a pain to maintain. I'm wet to my armpits just scraping algae.

If you are considering a reef, you'll get much better PAR with a 75 which will make your corals happier.

I PMed him, unfortunately a stand + tank + T5 lighting is out of my budget. I was hoping to find just a tank on sale. Would be awesome to stop fighting with plans for a stand and T5s would be amazing. A bit of an upgrade from the fluorescent bulbs the animals currently enjoy.

Jon

Yeah, that sounds like a pretty sweet setup. I agree, the 75 is too small. Really a 120 would be ideal.... Curse you, budget!!

Craig, we've got way too many Chris's already. How about Carl? or lets just make it real simple and stick with Joe. :p

But everyone has always called me by my older brother's name - Chris.. :mad2:

Maybe we can use my little brother's name - Kirk - nah, still too uncommon :rolleye1:

can we use my other little brother - Chris - guess not.

Maybe I'll just use my sister Kim's name. :eek1: then again maybe joe would be just fine.

One of my housemates name is Bob. He says the name was ruined with, "what about Bob" and the commercials out for the natural male enhancement, "Meet Bob".

Jon

I'm still hunting for a tank. There is a 120g reef ready up in PA, but $600 is out of my budget and it looks as if there are already 5 people asking for it.

Jon

Yeah, plus with the 120 you'd have to get a new stand, etc. But it seems with all the other costs the tank is the fairly cheap part.... ?? How much does an eel run?

I'm down with Kim, there's not enough girls in this club. Where's bloopbloop been lately?
